Was it Hendrys fault today when we smoked balls right at them all day?

Lamest possible excuse there is in baseball. Hitting the ball right at fielders happens so often it's not ever worth mentioning.

Posted
An "across MLB" comparison is a bit disingenuous, seeing as how 14 of the teams play with a DH. Though an NL-only comparison would make roughly the same point: Hendry has put together a lot of mediocre offenses.

Definitely. I just think the idea that this team is playing as everyone should have expected going into the year is funny as hell.

But there was a lot of concern that this team had some serious downside on offense, with all of our best hitters except for Soto being past their primes, and Soto being a catcher, which is always unpredictable.

It's only funny to you because you see the outlier 2008 season as the standard, which is a very warped perception of the baseball teams Jim Hendry builds.

You're so goofy. I love your schtick. Never change, homeslice.

He still only has to build a better team than the other 6 in our division. He usually has done just that.

Agreed, but again, anyone who claims they were predicting THIS is a liar. Baseball is baseball: there are no guarentees that players and teams are just going to walk over the season and you saw plenty of people here saying that 2009 was not a sure thing by any stretch of the imagination, but there's a huge gulf between that and how flat-out bad this team is playing. That you have this many players not playing anywhere near career or projected levels plus the injuries is basically a perfect storm of suck.

So the benchmark is occasionally squeaking by a terrible division? I'd check Hendry's winning percentage if I were you......

Isn't Ramirez 29?

He's 31.

Damn, but still that isn't really at the age where you would expect a huge drop off.

Anytime a ballplayer is in his 30s, there's a chance for a big dropoff. Maybe a small chance, but it happens.

Of course, Ramirez was doing pretty well until he got hurt. But he's always had some injury issues.

We also get to be embarrased nationally on Sunday Night Baseball this weekend.

eh, we weren't gonna win the carp game no matter what. We could be ok the rest of the series.

yeah this game was their best starter vs. Our worst. I still personally think we will win 1-2 of the remaining 3 games which isn't that bad considering how well the Cardinals have been playing coming in.

Since 03 we have won 3 division titles. So that's what 3 in 6 years. I don't remember our history, but has anyone else this century been able to claim this? Oh and how many other GMs have built a team that won a playoff series for us?

I feel bad for Arnold about how his heart will break when the next GM after Hendry is worse.

Yeah, I really don't worry about him though. He's still a good hitter. Soriano though..
