Roy Halladay Rumors: Monday

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 20 at 3:43pm CST]

3:43pm: Jeff Blair hears that just a few teams are serious about Halladay: the Phillies, Dodgers and Angels.

Cards GM John Mozeliak seems less interested in Halladay now that he has "lowered his sights in the trade market" and the Yankees and Red Sox don't believe Ricciardi will deal within the division.

Thats good to know, of course anyone who runs into the Phillies or Dodgers with Halladay in October wont have a lot of fun.

No need to have playoff baseball if the Dodgers get him. Then again I was also sure the Cubs would roll through last year's playoffs. :D

I haven't even seen anything about, but what if the Giants got Halladay. I don't think anyone could beat Lincecum, Cain, and Halladay in a playoff series.

Probably will be the Cardinals, Brewers or Cubs.

On XM Home Plate yesterday someone(don't remember who it was reporting) said that Halladay to the Dodgers would start with Russell Martin and a top prospect.

if true, that's hilarious

He was just on MLB.com talking about it. The Mets are insane.

And if that's all it takes to get Halladay (Like I speculated earlier), then damn near every team that can take on his salary is in contention to get him.

The BJ are trying to do the Mets a favor and the Mets should no thank you, alledgely?

Wow, the Mets must think they have no shot at the playoffs even with a potential Santana/Halladay rotation.

Halladay can't play CF, SS or 1B or bat cleanup, so....

Yeah, but it's only a matter of time when Beltran and Reyes are coming back, and they can find a decent enough bat to play 1B if Delgado is out longer.

The Mets are 9 games out and none of those hitters are coming back soon. Halladay isn't going to erase that deficit by himself. It's only worth if for the Mets if they signed him to an extension

No package with Wells or Rios as earlier reported? There's got to be more to that deal, I can't believe the muts turned that down straight up.

As much as people hate Hendry here, I am very glad we don't have Omar Minaya.

The Mets don't want Halladay because they know he alone won't pitch them back into the East lead. I'm sure they know that's a favorable trade on the books, but 2nd Place doesn't matter. Obviously the final year of the contract counts, but I would be really surprised if a team 9 games down were buyers for a pitcher.

Sure they could. Because to beat the giants all you have to do is score 2 or 3 runs on a lot of days. Their offense is embarrassingly bad. Like, worse than us bad.

On a similar tangent, Steve Phillips was on Baseball Tonight Sunday night talking about the Mets trading for Halladay. He mentioned that the Mets have been risk-averse to trading high-end talent for pitching because of the Kazmir/Zambrano debacle. However, he made no allusion to the fact that he was the guy who made that deal. Dolt.

Jim Duquette was GM at the time. And it's pretty widely-believed that the trade was pushed through by ownership.

SSR already said it, but there's a really, really good reason for that.

3:35pm: Ricciardi told Jordan Bastian that Halladay has provided him with a list of teams to which he would approve a deal.

Sounds an awful lot like another situation from this past winter. Has anyone caught Doc at a sports bar singing Go Cubs Go by any chance?

I don't have a link for this, but supposedly MLBN says the Phillies are closing in on Halladay. Do with it what you will.
