Could he be the crappy glove version of Mark Derosa, fill in at RF, LF, 3B, 1B, and get a good chunk of playing time? Granted its much better if the person has a good glove at all those positions but at least he could spell those players and provide a great bat in the lineup.

And yes, I think he's essentially going to be the bad defense DeRo. He's going to play the positions he can and play them poorly. With guys like Aramis, Bradley, and Soriano, I think Fox will get a decent amount of playing time. I'm assuming at this point that his catching days are far behind him.

IMHO, it makes the most sense to play Soriano some at 2B until Fox's bat cools off.

Of course, I'm the one who still has no idea why they haven't played Derrek Lee in the OF some.

Probably because hes one of the best defensive first baseman in baseball and never logged an inning in the outfield in his 12 year career, but who knows.

The fact is, both Aramis Ramirez(at least for a few weeks) and Milton Bradley are both guys who could use about 1 day off a week, so getting Fox PT should be easy.

He may not get regular at-bats, but he'd be the Cubs' best pinch-hitter. He's providing what the Cubs hoped Hoffpauir would provide. He HAS to stay; it's a no-brainer. The correct move would be to give up on the silly notion that they need 12 pitchers and send Patton packing.

They could give up that silly notion and just send Hart and Shark down.

That would be a possibility too. I was really thinking more of the idea of cutting back to 11 pitchers than which pitcher would go down.

That is what I was guessing, but I think someone said that Patton should be right near (or maybe at) the 90 days of service he needs to have on the major league roster to satisfy the Rule 5 requirements. Meaning he could go on the DL clearing a roster spot.

Money aside, you bench Bradley and put Fox in RF and start him everyday. You can't put this guy back in the minors. He's proven he can hit.

you know who has proven he can hit? milton bradley.

Yes, since the beginning of June he has actually been one of the best hitters on the team.

Jake has only 2 fewer home runs and 4 fewer RBI than offseason prize Milton Bradley in 39 fewer games. Nuff said.

Not really. Fox has options. Bradley doesn't. Not to mention the paycheck differences. Like it or not, that all plays a role.

i dont think he was saying Bradley should be sent down, just saying fox deserved to stay up

i don't think he was suggesting that bradley be sent down or dfa'd. he was saying that's why fox would stay.

Is there an echo in here? :)

What's the point of making the comparison to Bradley then? Seems like if you wanna compare homer numbers, you can say that Fox has the same number of homers as Aramis in only 5 fewer AB's. Compare him to someone that has performed instead of one of the more disappointing players on the team.

Nobodys suggesting moving Soriano or Bradley, but Im saying that if you're chocing who to keep between Fox, Hoff, Fuld, etc, the answer should be simple: keep the best player, and by far, thats been Fox.

Fair enough. Just not sure why you would even bring up Bradley in that case. Why not compare the players you just mentioned instead?

Im just showing how productive Fox has been in his short time up. In half the games, he also has 3 less HR and 5 less RBI than Hoffpauir.

He's already passed the 90 days. He can be DL'd at any time.

Seriously, why weaken 2 positions instead of just 1 defensivly. I think 1st base defense is more important than one of the corner OF.

On Bradley: Has anyone ever seen such a supposedly great hitter with so many weak IF groundouts?

See Soriano, Alfonso

I figured that would be the response, but he seems to K more. Maybe that's just my warped perception of reality.

Why can't they move Soriano to second and put Fox in left? Money aside, you bench Bradley and put Fox in RF and start him everyday. You can't put this guy back in the minors. He's proven he can hit. As much as people love Fuld pitchers are going to find out his weaknesses and exploit them like every other rookie. I love his energy but Fox has to be on the squad no matter what.

You do realize who else is a rookie, right?

It doesn't matter if you're a rookie when you're a future triple crown winner. Jake Fox is the best batter the Cubs have! He needs to play every single day, or be traded to a team that will actually play him. A team with good sense. I hear the Cardinals are looking to mix up their OF.

Jake.... (inhale) Fox... (and let it out). Ahh. That's refreshing.

Soranio to 2b solves this . As bad as his defense could be , I am all for a Jake Fox return to Catching one game a week. 1b/3b/lf/C Lou can find plenty of at-bats for him.
