Im surprised they're not going with Taguchi due to his major league experience and the fact that hes a righty and could maybe platoon with Kosuke.

What Id really like is if they went all out and sent up Colvin.

Why would they call up colvin? Not that I disagree with you, I just want to know your reasoning.

Basically, whoever comes up is going to be a non factor. I cant see any of these guys being any better than the other 2, so why not see what the one of the 3 who may have a future with this team has to offer. Fuld is 27 and his only use MIGHT be as a leadoff hitter, but thats not going to happen.

Because Colvin needs regular at bats, something he wouldnt get on this team.

Fulds going to be of no use. A pinch runner at most. Hes a lefty, so theres no platoon to be had out of it. If you're going to bring up a pinch hitter and nothing else, may as well be DuBois who has a bit of pop in his bat.

Maybe Colvin will get Fulds roster spot in Iowa.

With Reed on the DL we need somebody to spell Kosuke in center. That would be the reasoning to call up Fuld.

Fuld's got a .326/.371/.463 line off of LHs this year in AAA. That's the only reasoning I can see, considering Kosuke is so awful against LHs.

Who the heck is Sam Fuld? Why would they call up somebody so obscure when they could call up Scales, who actually has a few games of experience. Can Scales not play CF, and is that a huge issue?

Fuld's been bouncing around the organization for awhile and had a cup of coffee back in September 2007, when rosters expanded. His ceiling is a 4th OF on a decent team.

I'm guessing this move was done to fill the hole Reed Johnson left when he went on the DL.

The acronym I'd prefer to see when it comes to Miles is "DFA"

I can live with him being on the DL for the rest of the season.

From what I can gather, his ceiling is a poor mans Scott Podsednik.

Aside from the fact that in all likelihood Colvin would be completely overmatched and play like crap if he was called up, and that he needs regular playing time in order to get better, something he can only do in the minors, a call up would nearly destroy any hope of having the Cubs ever benefit from having him on the roster. The longer they wait to put him on the roster, the longer it will be before he has to stay on the major league roster without the option of stashing him in the minors. If Colvin ever pans out, it's going to take a while. But if they call him up now, it will delay his improvement and make it much more likely that he will be gone from the Cubs before he ever accomplishes anything.

Basically. Lou's plan for Fuld after the spring was that he goes back to AAA, works on stealing more bases, and then his time would come. He never stole more than 11 bases in a college season, and his career high was 22 back in '06. So far this season, he's stolen 20 bases in 25 attempts, so he's obviously working it.

It seems to me that while I cant see either making an impact of any kind, So Taguchi would be the better choice if he can play CF. He has major league experience, his .299/.396/.399 is slightly better than Fulds .286/.358/.399, and every off season they seem to try and find someone to make Kosuke feel more at home, and hes a righty, so he can get a few starts vs. lefties.

I think they'd have to add him to the 40 man, probably not something they want to do for a week or so until Johnson comes back.

No surprise here, but the Trib says it's Fuld.

The Cubs will call up Triple-A Iowa outfielder Sam Fuld today to replace Aaron Miles, who is headed to the 15-day disabled list with a hyper-extended right elbow.
