Way to squeeze sawdust out of the bat with RISP guys. It's not that hard. You can get hits with no one on, but not with RISP? Go to hell.

not hitting with RISP makes them "mental midgets"?

i think it's clear that it's in their heads right now and it's affecting them, so yeah

Clearly. Except when they come back from big deficits and win games. Then it is not.

Like when other managers and players practically give the games away, yeah, then.

Ozzie put Linebrink in who is clearly terrible. We won on a broken bat Soriano hit.

Cleveland is the worst team in the AL and we took advantage of quite possibly the worst bullpen on earth twice, capped off by a former Cub throwing a wild pitch after a throwing error and lucky hits by Blanco and Miles.

It wasn't exactly Soriano and Bradley hitting grand slams. Outside of Lee, Bradley (with no RISP) and possibly Soto, everyone on this team has sucked for the last month.

We're the mental midgets.

For not being able to turn away from this team, which delivers misery and pain every year, on schedule.

I have said it time and time before. Being a Cubs fan is like being a woman stuck with an abusive husband who lies about where the bruises come from. She just loves him too much to leave him.

I see it as more along the lines of that perenial loser uncle, brother, or brother in law who stays on your couch and keeps borrowing money and swears up and down that hes about to land a great job or make a great investment and he'll finally be able to pay you back for all of the inconvenience hes caused you over the years.

Ugh, I've rarely been as happy to have missed a game as yesterdays. I'm not sure when the last time was I saw a box score that was that ghastly in the LOB department.

Obviously, the only option is to sign Randall Simon for that late spark...

It was like clockwork: handful of singles to load em up, then shut off the spicket.

Singles, load em up, then nothing.

Singles, load em up......nothing.

It made me feel like I was having one of those bad dreams where you know what you have to do, and you try to do it over & over, but somehow you just can't ever actually do it.

So the Cubs don't get clutch hits, but when they do, it's lucky? Not that I have any faith in Blanco and Miles offensively, nor am I saying that the Cubs have hit well in clutch situations, but give credit where credit is due. A hit with RISP from Miles and Blanco is just as good as a hit with RISP from anyone else.

Yeah those warm days at Wrigley against the Indians and Pirates are super impressive.

Exactly.

"But Jim Hendry traded for Aram in 2003", pleaded the teary eyed Cubs fan......

And has a large part of the responsibility for turning this team from a perennial doormat to back-to-back division champs. There are lots of reasons why hendry is not a great GM, but he's not as terrible as you'd love to make him seem.

Before that he turned them into back-to-back disastrously awful seasons.

The money did more to make this team successful than Hendry did.

I'm ready to order a custom Cubs jersey with the number "0" and "Kickme" for the name. "Mental" would work too.

I think "HELP ME" would work well too.

.223/.330/.344/.674 with RISP this season. the BA, SLG and OPS are worst in MLB.

with nobody on, they're at .248/.311/407/.718... not nearly as bad.

i sort of feel like they're being TOO passive with RISP. it seems like a lot of guys are getting behind in the count and then either striking out or making a weak out. if you have 1st and 2nd with less than 2 outs, or bases loaded, the pitcher is going to try to get ahead in the count. that's probably a good time to look for a pitch early in the count that you can mash.

I don't know about you, but that looks "nearly as bad" to me. A significantly lower OBP with a higher SLG equates to just about as pathetic.
