How exactly is someone a draft eligible SOPH?

Juco for a year/red shirt?????

No matter your grade or schooling, you're eligible for the draft if you turn 21 within 45 days of draft day.

Round 33: John Lambert, LHP, NC State

He's huge: 6'7 / 220 lbs. 10/11/1987.

MLB scouting video (topped out at 89 mph): http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?topic_id=4961152&content_id=4737065

Fellow Wolfpack lefty John Lambert had a big game against North Carolina with plenty of scouts in attendance, striking out 10 but walking nine. He also showed an average fastball and slider and power pitcher's approach to go with his 6-foot-7 frame. His delivery tends to get mechanical, making it tough for him to repeat his delivery.

BA has him as the 28th best prospect in the state of North Carolina.

"We thought the opportunities were better this year than in the past," Cubs scouting director Tim Wilken said about drafting prep stars.

Among the 27 players taken on Wednesday were right-handed pitcher Robert Whitenack, taken in the eighth round out of SUNY-Old Westbury. He was named the 2009 ECAC Pitcher of the Year, and he is not only the first Panther to be drafted by a Major League team but also the first Division III player taken in the '09 Draft.

Round 27, Corey Martin, RHP, Western Carolina University: He has an average fastball and slider and consistently hit 90-plus mph on the radar gun. A converted reliever during his sophomore season, he won 14 games for WCU, including a career-high seven his senior season. He finished his career with 153 strikeouts in his 70 appearances. He was named Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week in mid-April last season after throwing nine innings in two appearances. He limited Georgia Southern to one unearned run on six hits in those two games.

LSU Daily Reveille"]Sophomore infielder DJ LeMahieu was also selected Tuesday in the second round at No. 79 overall by the Chicago Cubs, where former LSU infielders Mike Theriot and Ryan Fontenot already play.

Theriot called LeMahieu on Wednesday, Mainieri said, but LeMahieu’s girlfriend did not believe it was Theriot and hung up.

Sun-Times"]Wrigley Field was the first thing to come to Dan Sheppard’s mind when he saw he was selected Wednesday in Day 2 of baseball’s amateur draft.

Why Wrigley? Because the Downers Grove North catcher was taken by the Cubs in the 30th round with the 920nd overall pick.

"The Chicago Cubs. I wasn’t really expecting it," said Sheppard, who is considered one the best defensive catchers in the state. "But it was really awesome."

"It’s a dream come true," said Sheppard, an Iowa signee. "So many kids dream of playing at Wrigley around here. To have this happen to me is amazing."

Sheppard, who batted .430 with six homers and 28 RBI this season for the Trojans, was at home when he "saw it on the computer" that he was picked. He said he expects to meet with the Cubs in "the next week or two."

"Hard work always pays off," Sheppard said. "I’m just working on getting better each day."

I'd wondered if they'd spend last night calling some signability guys who had slipped who might be somewhat signable after all, or might be summer draft-and-follow candidates. But as they enter round 37, five of the first six picks today have been college-age roster fillers, only one CC pick and no HSers yet today.

Jacksonville Sports"]Thomas, who played at Edward Waters College, was posing for pictures in front of the Statue of Liberty when his phone rang. The Chicago Cubs selected him in the 10th round.

He played third base for EWC, but pro scouts project him as a first baseman or pitcher. Thomas said he doesn't care which position he plays - or how long it takes to get to the majors - as long as he gets the chance.
