One would think it'd be a simple thing for the Cubs to issue a press release the day after the signing deadline, providing a full listing of their signees (including guys like Jackson that signed weeks ago). In fact I wonder why all teams don't do this as standard operating procedure.

Might be because these guys need to pass physicals and the like?

Well Okay then, how about two days after the deadline.

The case remains that everyone who's paying any sort of attention to this stuff knows which guys you drafted, yet it remains shrouded in mystery which ones actually signed. Not sure why the team wouldn't want to publicize the signings, much the same way college football and basketball programs do on signing day for HS kids. But they don't.

All MLB teams have a press release when they sign their first rounder, including the Cubs.

They update their web site with a listing of all signings; the problem is its done slowly so MiLB.com's box scores or BA's draft database ends up being quicker from time to time.

A couple of years ago, everyone knew right away when Josh Vitters signed around an hour before the deadline. But 44th rounder Bryan Jost also signed on the day of the deadline and no one mentioned it until he showed up at Fitch a few days later. So basically, I agree with Craig - you'll hear about it if it's a significant overslot.

"Significant" being a key word.

If we signed Lambert for a $70K superslot, or Shephard for $120K-plus-scholarship superslot, those aren't necessarily notable enough to command BA's attention. When they've got plenty of higher-profile and higher-dollar prospects to focus on.

Based on the front page link I guess Nick Struck signed:

Pitcher Nick Struck, out of Mount Hood JC in Oregon, told Hawai'i coach Mike Trapasso that he signed with the Chicago Cubs, who picked him in the 39th round.

His Hawaii coach sounds thrilled about it.

"He's making a big mistake," Trapasso said. "He got some bad advice."

Nice, I always like nabbing those JC guys. BA doesn't have him as signed yet either so they're clearly not completely updated.

seems odd that may lasted to the 36th round. he had good numbers for a strong program and plays a number of positions. i guess it just seems like college juniors with his profile tend to go a lot earlier than the mid 30s, even if they do profile as AA/AAA roster filler.

In the talkback under one of the 2 most recent AZ Phil articles on TheCubReporter, a poster mentioned we had signed Lambert, but he parties too hard and was subsequently cut. No idea if this is true, but it could be that he was the 6th lefty Wilken was talking about and that he was cut so quick, it was never even reported anywhere that he had signed to begin with.

BA has updated their draft database with a few more post-10th round bonus figures:

11: LHP John Mincone, Suffolk County (N.Y.) CC-Grant - $100,000 bonus

12: OF Runey Davis, Howard (Texas) JC - $125,000 bonus

32: RHP Trey McNutt, Shelton State (Ala.) CC - $115,000 bonus

39: RHP Nick Struck, Mount Hood (Ore.) CC - $125,000 bonus

BA doesn't include all over-slot bonuses after the 10th round, just those that are $100,000 or more so it's still possible someone like Sergio Burruel (who we expected to get a sizable bonus) got over-slot money.
