This just blew my mind when I first looked at it.......

There's so little difference in the rate stats, you wonder what's the big deal ??

It's the clutch !! 4.79 R/G with Ramirez, and 3.92 R/G without.

Thats less than a run per game Fred. How about runs against w & w/o??

Losing 0.87 R/G is huge !!!

With Ramirez RA/G = 4.62, without Ramirez RA/G=3.80.

With Ramirez, CUBS outscored the opponents 139-134 (29 games) Without Ramirez, CUBS have outscored the opponents 98-95 (25 games)

Wow, that's fascinating. Yeah, .87 runs per game is big. We knew that -- but I didn't realize the overall hitting was staying pretty level.

its not all that shocking in my opinion, all you have to do is watch a game and see man after man after man left in scoring position

Fred I'm not fully familiar with the stats around clutch, and don't know what a good ratio for batters driven in vs (batters driven in + left on base) is. Was Ramirez off the charts good before getting injured? Are the rest of the Cubs performing lower than normal this year?

The Cubs have been terrible recently at hitting with runners on/in scoring position.

The Cubs are 28th in baseball in BA, R and OPS with RISP. Last year we were 4th in all 3 of those categories I think. It's a major major problem and a huge reason why our offense is nowhere near as good as last years.

The combination of not having Ramirez and a *very* powerful lefty bat in Edmonds has hurt this team. 19 HR in 250 AB with a .937 OPS is something this team would love to have right now. Edmonds went yard every 13 or so AB.

You know who hit: 320/.397/.594/.991 in 147 at bats (or with a homerun once every 18 at bats)? You know what he followed that up with:

.204/.260/.339/.599 (with a homerun every 34 at bats).

Yeah, we didn't need to watch that happen again with a 2nd retread Cardinal player. I appreciate what Edmonds did last yr, but to hope/expect him to do it again would have been foolish.

As foolish as signing a guy who has one season of 500+ AB's his entire career and who was a DH at a tee-ball park for $30 million?

No, as foolish as to give a utility player who have power, no speed, very little "actual" versatitily on the field, and barely league average hitting ability a 2 yr $5million contract. At least with Bradley it wasn't production that was being question it was his health.

The reason you don't re-sign Edmonds is because he's a bad defender now, not because he's a good bet to be a bad hitter. Gary Gaetti wishes he was anywhere close to Edmonds as a ball player.

Speaking of that Miles comes back tonight, doesn't he?

Ugh.
