Instead of signing Bradley to a nasty contract, we could have just put DeRo out in right all season and been just fine. It certainly wouldn't get us "more left-handed", but a ton of cash would have been saved to spend on someone other than Gregg to close.

DeRosa isn't an everyday RF'er.

He would certainly be more 'everyday' than Bradley, who is injured every other day.

DeRosa/Hoff platoon could be decent.

Neither is Bradley, and even Snuffaluffagus knew that before the Cubs signed him.

I remember going to a Cleveland game awhile back, and those people just hated Bradley.

Eventually he hit better for them, but I believe it wasn't until the 2nd season he was there.

We could be looking at '10 before Bradley begins to look good. Might as well just say it right now. '09 could be the adjustment/suckage year for him.

Just put him on the DL so we can bring up another pitcher who only pitches once a month.

Brad Snyder would be the best bet to replace him, but since hes on the DL, Taguchi San woudl probably get the nod because of his experience. I can hardly wait.

That might be the last straw for me.

It would be between Taguchi, Fuld, and DuBois, and Fulds lefty edge might give him the edge. If Bradley has to miss significant time, they may be forced to make a trade or sign Jim Edmonds for the outfield or Ray Durham for the infield.

They don't necessarily have to call up an OF. They would still have 5 OF's even with Bradley gone.

They really could use another backup IF who can play 2nd and 3rd (since they're back down to 1 with all the roster moves) but I don't know if there is anybody else that can realistically be picked.

They probably would call up an OF for a few days until Freel's 15 days is up and then send that OF down at that time.

Hendry's nightmare of an offseason lives on. I don't know if I've ever seen one man weaken a team so much in just a few months. That said, as long as Bradley can be and stay healthy when Ramirez comes back we should be good enough to make a playoff run, assuming none of our other major players get hurt.

And who would that be? The great Doug Deeds?

The maddening part is that everyone saw it coming months ago. But he needed to prove his genius.

There's a word that has NEVER been associated with Jim Hendry.

According to Lou, they will evaluate him today, and make the decision to DL him or not. Lou also said the problem with DL'ing him is he isnt sure there is anybody down there to call up. Got to love our high minor leagues.

Id platoon Reed and Hoff and bring up Jason DuBois. Hes really not going to help too much but beteen him, Deeds, Taguchi, and Fuld, hes probably the best option as a bat off the bench. Brad Snyer would have gotten the call if he werent DLd.

Yea, Dubois and Snyder have been pretty good. Bad break for Brad Snyder.

Can someone explain the opt out clause in Bradleys contract, how many games he has to play. I wa sdiscussing with smeone that I think The Cubs have an opt out clause if he plays fewer than X number of games or something.

He is currently guaranteed through the 2010 season and has a vesting option for 2011. If he plays 75 games this year - and this year only - the option automatically vests and become guaranteed for 2011.

If it doesn't automatically vest, then I believe it's a team option.

It's pretty much a lock to vest unless he suffers a career ending injury or something.

Games played is a not a good indicator to base a vesting option on. He could reach that simply by staying on the bench and pinch hitting once and awhile. I thought it was originally reported that the vesting option was 300 abs or something like that. Either way, it looks like unless he has a serious injury, he will be with the Cubs for another two years.

That is awful. Hendry should be shot.

I agree. It should have been X number of ABs. Or at least if you make it games, make it 120-150 or something and do it for both years.
