McGwire, Bonds, Sosa, Palmero and ALL the usual suspects had a career year in strike outs in their best HR year. I then looked at the past greats Ruth, Dimag, Hack Wilson, you name 'em. To a man there was no difference in K's. Not a single one of them. The coincedence was too great to ignore.

So with a heavy heart the last player I looked up was Junior. Guess what? His career S.O. Ave. was 80. His bust out HR year he struck out 121 times, a higher increase than all of 'em. You can look it up. :(

There might be something to that, but if you look at most of the prolific power hitters of this era, you'll find a ton of strikeouts scattered among them. Guys like Albert Pujols and Aramis Ramirez are more the exception than the norm. There was a study done on I want to say The Hardball Times awhile ago that looked at the correlation between power hitters and strikeouts. The general finding from the study was that an increase in home run hitting tended to lead itself to an increase in strikeouts. I'll post it if I find it.

I think it's difficult to compare HR hitters across eras in that way, too. Pitching and hitting have changed so much over the years.

Yes, and you also can't compare counting stats with rate stats here (not to mention development/age). Not shocking that his "breakout year" in terms of HR was at age 26-27. But he still showed plenty of power before then. His SLG was higher in the strike shortened 1994 season than in his 56 HR season. Yes, his highest HR total was also in his season with the most SO, but it was also the season with the most plate appearances he had seen to that point. Additionally, that was the year there was a ton of hype around him chasing 60HR, so it wouldn't surprise me if his K rate went up over the course of the year (greater focus on hitting HR). Not saying this means Griffey was clean for sure, but your assertion is a stretch.

That was the most enjoyable game weve seen in a while. Looks like were back on track, but sould still use an extra bat in the lineup. We could easily be 6-0 so far on this home stand, and have a ralatively easy road trip coming up going through Atlanta, Cincinatti(now with 100% less Votto) and Houston, and then we finish the month off with the sickly AL Central and the Pirates. Hopefully, when thats all said and done, were only looking at another few weeks without Aramis.

As terrible has its been I look up and see the Cubs only 3 games behind in the lose column and this is with the Cards and Brewers going through hot streaks. A healthy Cub team is going eat this NL Central up.

Why "yikes?" Soriano is just being Soriano. Bradley and Lee are that low because of how slowly they started. The only "yikes" here is using only BA like that.

I agree about Lee and Bradley, but as over rated a stat as BA is, even slumping Soriano shouldnt plumet from the .300s to sub .250 in the time it took him. With his knee, he could use tomorrow off with the off day Monday.

Bradley is really turning it around. He's batting .313/.450/.688/1.138 in his last 7 days, including a 3-4 game yesterday.

Yes and no. Soriano isn't a .300's hitter, so you knew that was going to drop anyway. He's clearly slumping, but he usually goes through roughly .260-.290 peaks and valleys.
