I kinda agree with the new guy. Zambrano's outburst --- the tossing the ump out motion, throwing the ball to the OF, throwing his glove, and demolishing the gatorade machine were incredibly childish and stupid.

If all he'd have done was cussed the ump, got tossed, and bumped the ump (we've found that it matters not who's fault the bump is) he'd probably have gotten 6 games. It's not out of the question for MLB to have given a few more games for his other behavior.

I could have seen MLB throwing out a 10 game suspension (2 games for a SP) just as easily as a 6 gamer.

Watson was probably too busy laughing at Zambrano and the video to get too serious about how long the suspension should be.

Zambrano has to be beside himself in relief that he got such a pathetic suspension, I cannot imagine there is any reason to appeal it. I'm not going to pass judgement here as to what he should have received for a suspension but a 6 game suspension for a pitcher is about the smallest smack on the wrist you can get. Basically the league is saying he did nothing wrong with that weak sentence.

You've made a very stupid post here for your debut fella.

6 games is fairly standard for pitchers, it forces them to miss time. The league may have gone further, if the ump hadn't contributed to the problem. But it was a perfectly acceptable outcome.

Again, very stupid post, put some thought into it next time.

So apparently being a regular here makes you exempt from mods for personal attacks? This is a Cubs forum man, people come here to hang out and read/enjoy the Cubs. Why do you have to make replies like that to new posters? I mean obviously this site costs money and is paid for by advertisement views, so I don't know how smart it is to come down all elitist on new posters like that. Just cut out your first and last sentences, no need for it.

lol relax

i don't see how it's a stupid post. he's absolutely right. suspensions for starting pitchers have always been a joke.

"that's unnacceptable guy..... we won't tolerate that garbage here in the mlb... we're pushing your start back 2 days! think about that while you're sitting on the bench next tuesday getting paid to do nothing. maybe you'll think twice next time"

I don't think players get paid while serving suspensions. So he does lose 6 games worth of pay (for whatever that's worth) along with having his start pushed back.

A 6 game suspension doesn't even lead to a missed start. It means he has a start pushed back two days and that very well could mean no games missed at all depending on when his final start before the all star break is. I don't see what is wrong with calling that a slap on the wrist because that is exactly what it is.

I'd like to see baseball take a lot harder stance on suspensions in general(which was probably pretty obvious from the tone of my post!). I see no reason at all to try to appeal that though, Zambrano has to be happy with that judgment.

If a position player does all of that, he probably gets 3-5 games, which is actually 3-5 games. But like you said, this is basically a 1-game suspension at best.

Like I said right after the whole thing happened, suspensions for starting pitchers are always a joke and are nowhere near as bad as those for position players. They seem worse because they get more games but that's before you factor in that a starter only pitches one out of five games.

Theoretically, any suspension for a starting pitcher should be five times as long as the suspension a position player would get for the same offense. Unfortunately, that's not how MLB hands out its suspensions.

On the other hand, it seems patently unfair to me to have a pitcher miss more than one of 30-some games they play in versus a position player missing 3-5 of 162. The math still adds up to hurting the pitcher more in that fashion.
