It wouldn't be that outrageous if Ramirez wasn't locked up for another 1 or 2. Even if Vitters came up and did well, he'd still be forced to go down for another season or 2. Josh can only play 1 position at this point and that position is locked up by their best player for a couple more seasons.

So as mentioned many times, you basically start the clock on Vitters for 40 games and barring another major injury to Ramirez, the clock ticks with Josh while he's in the Minors for another season or 2. Just won't happen.

No equally outrageous either way.

Wouldn't be crazy at all. He'd probably hit better than Soto, Lee, Bradley, and Fontenot.

In all, it would be stupid for them to have a fire sale. That's not to say they couldn't/wouldn't move some guys if they could (and Vance nailed who would likely to be moved), but there's not going to be a big blowout sale.

No, no it wouldn't. I know you're an optimist but let's be real. This team hasn't won a playoff game together. I think it's time to rebuild and build up our farm system. If someone offers great prospects for one of our players and we continue to look like we have this week, you take the deal in a heartbeat. It's time to rebuild and build a world series champion.

So you want to rebuild and build up the farm system and your first action is calling up a 19-year-old prospect from A ball?

Vitters would get eaten alive in the majors right now. No need to ruin his confidence or his future. I agree the 3B situation is a mess with ARam out, but Vitters isn't the answer. He's a prospect who's only 19 and is a few years away.

He will be up in time, but that time isn't now. Until then we can only pray for the 3B spot.

The first comment was sarcasm to make fun of our anemic offense right now. Of course you don't bring up a top prospect from A ball to the Majors. That's just hilarious to think about. But seriously, he'd probably be on par with Milton Bradley in terms of hitting this year.

I went to the Peoria game earlier today (or well, looking at the clock, I guess yesterday) but unfortunately the game was rained out after a long delay. This didn't make any sense, though, because they made the announcement that the game had been cancelled about 30 seconds after the light drizzle stopped, and it was dry for the rest of the day. Not a single drop. I guess we were supposed to have thunderstorms, but for whatever reason, they never happened. They need to find a better source of weather info or something.

On a positive note, I did manage to score Vitters' autograph. I was hoping I'd get a chance to stop and chat with him for a minute, but he got mobbed by fans as soon as he poked his head out of the dugout. People certainly know who he is around here.

I get to trade my tickets in for any other home game... so I'm picking a double-header in June

June 15th? I'm thinking about heading up there then, too.

It wouldn't be that outrageous if Ramirez wasn't locked up for another 1 or 2.

I might be wrong, but I think Aramis is signed through 2011, and the Cubs hold an option on him for 2012. If that's the case, Vitters should be in the minors for at least another three years. And that'd be totally OK...he'll only be 23 on Opening Day 2013. No need at all to rush him.

Aramis has a player option for the 2011 season, and the Cubs have a club option for 2012. So he could be a free agent any of those 3 seasons depending on what happens.

I think the 2013 season would probably go beyond not rushing Vitters. That would mean he would have spent a full year in each of Peoria, Daytona, Tennessee, and Iowa (or spent multiple years at one of those places). He might need that much time, but it also might prove to be problematic to keep him down that long if he's hitting well.

Man I hope he pans out (assuming he isn't traded). It would be nice for a change to see a home-grown position player be "All Star caliber."

Yeah I mean it's been, what, 9-10 months now since we had an All-Star we drafted/developed?

Yeah, I know...how quickly I forget, but Geo has me worried that he is merely a flash in the pan..though he has shown signs of life lately. I'm hoping Vitters ends up being the real deal is all I'm trying to say. Jury is still out on Geo; hope my fears end up being unfounded

Geo was an out of nowhere guy, certainly not a highly drafted and regarded pick like Vitters. Not that it means anything, but I don't think they make for a good comparison.
