Not for Peavy though:

1:58pm: According to Craig Elsten of 619 Sports, the Brewers acquired Jody Gerut from the Padres for Tony Gwynn Jr.

1:24pm: Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel passes along a tweet from Brewers assistant GM Gord Ash:

The Brewers will have a press release on a player transaction in the next hour.

That message was posted at about 1pm CST. Haudricourt says it is not Jake Peavy.

i hope the brewers are stupid enough to trade for cliff lee

:-k Are the Indians shopping Lee and are the Brewers trying to get him?

well...if the indians continue there awesome winning ways they most certainly will i believe...

when asked, the gm (can't recall his name), said some bollocks statement about how the team would rather trade pavano...of course that is laughable...he isn't going to tip his hand so early in the season...

Looking like Tony Gwynn Jr. for Jody Gerut. Solid deal if it's true...the Brewers had no use for Gwynn and Gerut would allow them to dump Chris Duffy. Kind of weird that the Padres would do something like that considering Gwynn was on waivers earlier this year and could've gotten him for free...that's why I'm a bit skeptical about this actually being true.

Why would it be stupid? He's only signed through this year, but there is a club option for 2010. He is 30, but they could give him an extension to take him to 32-33 and should be fine.

Is there a reason he may drop off quickly?

Was there a reason he was suddenly awesome?

He credits being more patient in counts and not trying to force things. His pitching coach credited his better control of the fastball and being able to locate in on both sides of the plate.

His peripherals are outstanding, so while it's certainly possible he could drop off, I wouldn't call it likely.

LOL at the Padres acquiring the player who crushed their season in 2007.

and LOL at the Padres for acquiring a guy just for his name

Who they could have claimed off waivers 3ish months ago for free, instead they give up Gerut. Who was one of their better offensive player, which isn't saying much but still...

Couple of my Padres fan friends think they got Gwynn Jr. to lead off. I tried to explain that the Jr. part of his name is pretty significant when determining how many batting crowns they think he'll win.

But whatever.
