I think this is probably a give Ascanio two innings tonight because we're sending him down tomorrow, but maybe he can convince the staff to get rid of someone else instead.

I doubt Ascanio goes down instead of 1 of the 2 guys we havnt seen in about a month.

Neither Cotts or Patton have been pitching much lately, hopefully one of those two are cut, DFA'd, traded, taken out back and shot, left at the STL airport, or whatever it takes to get rid of one of them.

For all I care both of them can go away and not come back. Bad relievers are always replaceable.

I wish I could convince Miles to quit playing baseball. We seriously have Neifi Perez all over again. I thought we were through with Neifi Perez type players on the Cubs.

1. Both suck

2. Both are lauded for their ability to play a bunch of positions

3. Both have OBPs that are carried by their BA

However, at least Neifi had a shred of power in his repitoire. I think I'd rather have Neifi on this team than Miles.

Great inning for the Cubs offense.

Fred, when is the last time the Cubs were held to 2 runs in a 3 game series? The last time I remember was in 2004 against the Astros, but maybe its happened more recently.

lollololol this team is so pathetic

they won 6 in a row before this. have some perspective.

(okay i know it's not going to happen, i just felt like saying it)

Yeah they beat the Houston Astros and the San Diego Padres. We're worldbeaters now.

At least our pen is starting to take some shape. Patton will probably be gone, Ascanio will get Heilmans spot, Heilman gets Pattons spot.

Exactly. If you want to look for a bright spot, Guzman is continuing to make the team confident that they have their 7th inning guy.

Basically it could be

Wells as long man

Ascanio 5th/6th if needed

Heilman mop up

Cotts loogy until we get someone better

Guz 7th

Marmol 8th

Gregg closer.

The thing is (all caps for emphasis) MILES CAN'T PLAY A LOT OF POSITIONS. He's a second baseman. Shortstop if you want horrible defense, other positions if you have an absolute emergency, but he can't play multiple positions! He's a second baseman!

This team is so bad right now.

I know Marshall has been awesome as a starter, but I'm curious to see what would happen if we made Marshall the LOOGY and moved Heilman to the rotation. Heilman was solid in the spring as a starter, and he obviously isn't getting it done in the pen.

Will never happen though. I just kinda want to see if Heilman would have any value as a starter before we completely give up on him or banish him forever in Lou's doghouse.

We havnt seen the guy in ages. Theres really no need to keep him over Ascanio, who Lou actually seems to almost trust.
