I might watch just to see if Gamel can make four errors tonight. Of course, I'm sure Ryan Braun's great defense in left will make up for it.

Funny that you say that. Watch for Braun in Web Gems tonight as he made a very nice catch.

Because we all know that having a web gem totally validates your defensive prowess.

Never said that, but your post mocked his defense prowess for tonight. Tonight he made a play that mot many LF could make.

I'm hoping you aren't talking about the sliding catch he made where he pointlessly slid to catch the ball. He shouldn't have been involved in that play at all if whoever was playing center wouldn't have backed up on the ball instead of just running in and catching the ball. Then Braun was basically sitting still when he slid to make that catch. If that ball would have fallen in, it would have been one of the worst outfield plays i had ever seen in my life. Seriously, whoever was in center is a horrible center fielder (maybe i'm overreacting and they just had one REALLY BAD read on the ball)

Nope I wasn't, there was a different play though it was nice to see Braun cover Cameron for once as Mike got a bad read on the ball off the bat. The slide was unneccessary on that catch however.

the Cards are still a threat. Their second best hitter and best pitcher are on the DL as well as their above average CF. Also a problem is that Pujols is in one of the worst slumps of his career, leaving a gaping hole in their lineup. I expect them to be in the discussion all year

The Cards arent a threat. They will be in the discussion, like they were in the discussion last year, which means they really wont be in the discussion.

The Braun catch was a nice catch, but you know what? Adam dunn, Chris Duncan, and other mediocre left fielders have made diving catches also. But unlike those guys, they lacked the showboating after it.

I didn't see much showboating...to me it looked like he smiled a bit after making the catch because even he was probably surprised he got it, threw the ball back in, and went to the dugout because it was the end of the inning. Maybe there was something different on a St. Louis feed, but that's all they showed on FS Wisconsin. It's not like he stood there and demanded that we all bask in his glow after the catch or anything.

It was nice to sweep the Cardinals, and hopefully the Cubs can do the same. ;)

You didnt catch the whole lay there for 5 secs all sprawled out on the ground? Then his little gallup into the infield? Im telling you this, tonight may not have been much, but hes going to eventually pay for his antics, its just a matter of time.

That I don't disagree with...he's already paid in the past and he'll continue to pay in the future. The same goes for other players like him (Soriano, Pujols, etc.). I personally think that beanball wars are incredibly stupid, especially in the strategic sense of giving the other team a free baserunner, but it'll probably continue, especially in division games.

Soriano gets a little showy (and he repeatedly pays for it), but I don't see much from Pujols. Both of them like to admire homers (Sori a tad more than Albert), but neither of them are as bad as Braun. I wouldn't have said that with much conviction a while ago, but Braun is just getting worse. In the last Cubs/Crew series when Braun acted like a jackass all the way around the bases, that might have been one of the worst cases I've ever seen.

At least most guy's celebratory antics end about 1/2 of the way down the first base line. Add to that the growing perception of the "untuck 'em" as the most disrespectful celebration in baseball. The two most visible guys are Fielder and Braun, and unlike Ryan, Prince is pretty classy the rest of the time.

One of these days someone is going to earhole Braun with a heater, and nobody outside of Wisconsin is going to feel the least bit bad about it.

I know Zambrano, Soriano, and Aramis showboat from time to time. But seriously, Braun just showboated after making a catch. What a douchebag.

Zambrano is undoubtedly infuriating to non-Cubs fans. If he weren't on our team, we'd hate him.

He's not Jose Valverde (who's going to get one of his teammates hurt at some point) bad, but he's in the ballpark. Fans always overlook/spin the behavior of their own players.

I cant really recall Z doing a thing in the last 2 years. As for Aram and Sori, they both like to look at their homeruns, and they then round the bases. The crap Bruan pulled towards Demp was as big a douchebag move as I think Ive ever seen. That was something you see in movies like Major League, but not in the real game of baseball. Hes going to get plunked alot in his career, and I really hope he gets the treatment Ventura got from Nolan Ryan.

I don't have problem with the way players celebrate. It really doesn't bother me, in fact I think it's funny most of the time.

On the other hand I find it strange that batter will showboat when, most of the time, he fails to get a hit. On the other hand it's weird when a pitcher showboats because they succeed most of the time. In other word's showboating is kind of dumb when you think about it.

Goodness, some of you guys are [expletive]. He didn't show boat, just watch the highlight. He dove, rolled over, smiled (for MAYBE a second or two), threw the ball in and just ran into the dugout. The day that is considered disrespectful, showboating, or worthy of a shot to the ear is the day I stop watching baseball. Why don't you try watching the highlight before you assume that he is as much of a douchebag as you think he is. (had to put this because it reminds me of Braun)

All I had to do was watch last weeks game vs the Cubs to know that he is as big a douchebag as I think he is. The stuff tonight wont get him a shot in the ear, but his other antics(see home run vs Dempster) should.

I'm not advocating the stuff he did against Dempster. I hope he grows out of that. I'm just saying don't me an equally sized douchebag and say he was hot rodding it after that catch tonight when he most clearly wasn't. You were making a mountain out of a molehill.

I watched the highlight, thanks. It certainly wasn't momentum that made him roll on his back, spread out his arms and legs and lay there for a while. It was showboating and it was pretty obvious. I'm not saying its a huge deal. I'm not saying that it deserves any retaliation. I'm just saying that he's is a douche's bag.

The diving catch was great, but Braun pretty much was at a dead stop when he rolled over and spread out his arms. That was definitely showboating.

Yes this is what I was talking about when I said he did some showboating after the catch. He laid there all sprawled out with a huge ass grin on his face, and then did his little gallop into the infield. The guy doesnt know how to do anything without showboating it. If I was a pitcher, I would do the Joba fist pump towards Braun every time I struck him out, but that wont happen because most of the pitchers arent douchebags like Braun, and know they could get a teammate or themselves plunked.

i don't think he was showboating at first either, he was just amazed he had actually made the play...but once he realized he made the play he rolled over and acted like a douche.
