I'm watching the Twins game on ESPN. Living in North Dakota means never being blacked out of any game, ever (except for Fox on mlb.tv).

Perkins gave up 6 runs while only getting 2 outs and never made it out of the 1st. Tex had a 3 run bomb and Arod hit his 4th, 3 in a row I believe. They've already batted around, Jeter has 2 hits already.

i highly doubt that, since braun is worse defensively than most LF.

It the sort of thing that should be named "The Jeter Effect", where a player makes routine plays look spectacular, doesn't make many errors (mostly because they don't get to a lot of balls), and develops a reputation that far exceeds the reality of their defensive ability. Jim Edmonds is another notable example of this. Braun will never develop a reputation like Jeter or Edmonds (outside of the Brewers fanbase), but the only reason anyone could say he is a good fielder with a straight face is because of this sort of thing.

 

Now I didn't see the play in question, but I have seen (on many occasions) Braun get fooled, get a bad jump or take a bad route and make what would have been an easy play for most OF look spectacular because of his athleticism. His ability to make recoveries with his raw athleticism is the only thing that separates him from guys like Chris Duncan and Adam Dunn.

I was never that worried about the Cardinals (still not). But I also wasn't that worried about the Brewers because of their pitching staff. I am now concerned about the Brewers.

I'm hoping you aren't talking about the sliding catch he made where he pointlessly slid to catch the ball. He shouldn't have been involved in that play at all if whoever was playing center wouldn't have backed up on the ball instead of just running in and catching the ball. Then Braun was basically sitting still when he slid to make that catch. If that ball would have fallen in, it would have been one of the worst outfield plays i had ever seen in my life. Seriously, whoever was in center is a horrible center fielder (maybe i'm overreacting and they just had one REALLY BAD read on the ball)

the Cards are still a threat. Their second best hitter and best pitcher are on the DL as well as their above average CF. Also a problem is that Pujols is in one of the worst slumps of his career, leaving a gaping hole in their lineup. I expect them to be in the discussion all year
