At any rate, regardless of how Soto lost the weight, he needs to re-lose it. Some people can actually lose weight without roiding up, and I would think that an MLB player would have access to more assistance in that regard than Joe & Jane Schmo. It's fine to be an overweight player when you're successful; when you're not, expect your weight to be an issue.

If it's a nagging injury, DL him and rehab it.

they should DL him and strap him to a treadmill for 15 days.

It looks like he was strapped down this offseason in a different conditions.

And during the offseason he should be required to be in the presence of a Cubs' conditioning coach 24-7.

that sounds a little unreasonable.

It was meant at least somewhat jokingly.

Isn't he hitting like .290 over his past 7 games?

.240 with no power

He's slugging .195 on the year. That's almost as unfathomable as his sub .500 OPS.

After hitting .109 in April, which is abysmal, he's .258 for May. Not great, but he's been getting on base more of late. That said, nothing wrong with Koyie getting a game or two a week at this point.....until Koyie starts sucking again.

Lous just doing his best to work with what he has. I guarantee he'll be pressing Hendry to get him a quality third base option. Its not his fault that 4/7 of his bullpen is absolute garbage.

Thats Bs. That was a Baker like move putting Demp back out there to pitch. Hell he wont let Randy freaking Wells pitch after 85 pitches, but he will throw the guy thats making 15 mil or whatever it is back out there after 115 pitches. Its pure ignorance, along with alot of Lous other decision making this year. Its time for Lou to be grilled by the media but it wont happen.

I questioned the move right off the bat as well. I was also a little aggravated when he stuck Harden back out there in the 8th inning (especially since we don't need to push his arm any harder than we have to). Of course both of those decisions backfired, and I had to fight the urge to throw something at my TV. Eventually I realized why Lou did what he did: HE DOESN'T TRUST HIS BULLPEN. He figured our chances were better with a tired starter on the mound than with any of our worthless relievers.

Bump.

Would anyone else like to see Soto sent down to the minors for a few weeks to get his head straight again. He's worthless out there when he can't hit, field, or throw.

The last week:

.333 .529 .333 .863

That slugging is hideous, but all in all that's not even remotely close to being someone who needs to be benched or sent down.

Plus it's not like we have any better options down in the minors to take Soto's place at this point.

Wieters? Aaarghh forgot.

10 years from now, Josh Vitters will be considered the better pick over Matt Wieters.

You're welcome to propose an alternative to Soto based on who's in our minor leagues and who can be had through free agency.

You can't argue that because it's way too early to tell. Vitters is looking pretty good. Still think we should have picked Wieters.

Not to derail the thread further, but I'd be a lot more confident of Vitter's future success if he had more than 5 BBs this year. But the kid is oozing with talent that is really showing right now.

Having seen both and read up extensively on both, I can argue it. I've been arguing it for awhile. I still stand by my assertion that Vitters is going to stick at 3B, Wieters is going to move off of C, and their bats will be comparable.

actually, it kind of is

michael wuertz is dominating for oakland because lou ran him out of town... just because he didn't like him.

i wonder if soto will start getting booed pretty soon. honestly i wouldnt really feel bad for him. all last year he talked about how much losing the weight helped. so how can you let yourself get fat again if it helped so much? i dont understand how a professional athlete can let something like that happening. it's like he didn't even care.

either that or it's because he was juicing for the 2 years that he was suddenly awesome

seems like a strange time to bump this thread considering Soto was actually pretty good in May, even with the very poor SLG.

Yeah, he's been getting plenty of singles and walks, just not driving the ball (and when he does, it has been dying on the warning track just like all of our Cobs right now).

I'm hoping this offense turns around on its own but I think it's going to be pretty spotty until Mr. Ramirez returns.

You don't like Chris Robinson hitting about .380 at Iowa?
