I think it's time to bench Soto. He's been useless both on the offensive end and the defensive end. Hurts the team more than he helps them. Koyie Hill is probably a much better option. What do you guys think? Edited by cubswin2009

I think the Cubs have more important issues to deal with than Soto. Just keep putting him out there because if he gets benched thats the end of the Geovany Soto era and Koyie Hill isn't the long term answer.

DL him and tell him to rest his injured arm and use the time off to make sure he's in the same shape as last year.

Pretty much. He's not going to do anything until he drops 20-30 pounds.

Lous just doing his best to work with what he has. I guarantee he'll be pressing Hendry to get him a quality third base option. Its not his fault that 4/7 of his bullpen is absolute garbage.

Thats Bs. That was a Baker like move putting Demp back out there to pitch. Hell he wont let Randy freaking Wells pitch after 85 pitches, but he will throw the guy thats making 15 mil or whatever it is back out there after 115 pitches. Its pure ignorance, along with alot of Lous other decision making this year. Its time for Lou to be grilled by the media but it wont happen.

Lou is far from perfect, and I think it'd be awesome if we could tie his arms and legs together once the game starts and let Trammell make the decisions, but do you really think he's the appropriate outlet for frustration? Lou's made bad decisions, but I hardly think his decisions make the Top 10 reasons the Cubs are struggling.

Oh I know hes not deserving of all the blame, but his decision making definately isnt going to help the Cubs overcome their shortcomings right now.

why can't people vent frustration with Lou's poor decision making? Is there really a limit on the number of things that can be wrong? If Lou's making bad decisions (and many people agree that he is), add it to the list of problems.

As others have said, with the way the season has started and the injuries we've had, our margin for error for the rest of the season is minimal. Managers might not change the win total for the team by a great degree, but he can certainly cost us some games with his micro-managing.

Exactly.

We just need to sit back and take a deep breath. With the starting staff we have, coupled with a now respectable, but not great lineup, I cant see us not entering the ASB without an above .500 record, and while Milwaukee, St. Lou, and even Cincy are better than we thought, none of these are teams capable with running off with a division. When we get everyone back, and finish with a solid second half, even if were fighting for a wild card, were still a contender. Yeah, I would trade foe an Atkins or Huff is the asking price is semi-reasonable, but other than that, I think we'll be OK.

Not that Iv gotten the positivity out of the way, is there any chance TLR ws right about Geo last year? You know what Im talking about.

If you're talking about steroid use, TLR is about the least credible person in the entire universe to be pointing fingers.

I'm on board with what others have said -- Soto himself credited at least some of his improvement to a substantial weight loss. Now it looks like he's packed the pounds back on.

Im not calling TLR credible by any means, but at this point, there are very, very few sluggers in the game at this point that I would be surprised to hear linked with PEDs of some form.

If Soto isn't 100% healthy then you have to bench him for a while. He also looked to have gained some weight this offseason. I remember one of the reasons why he had a breakout season in the minors was at least partially due to him losing weight.

No kidding. But why bring up TLR, who has managed and defended many of the players who have been caught, if you had a broader point to make about PEDs in baseball?
Posted
If we were talking a substance abuse issue, then I could see TLR being a subject matter expert.

So wouldnt he be able to see the signs better than anyone? Im sure he wasnt shocked by McGwire and Ankiel, and he wont be shocked if and when Ludwick and Molina come up.

Perhaps Bizarro TLR in Bizzaro Universe didn't express shock.

"La Russa said he always believed his teams had an edge - just not that kind of edge. He believes the conditioning, exercise and nutrition program implemented by his coach, Dave McKay, is such that it has made the Cardinals and, before them, the A's, more competitive.'

At any rate, regardless of how Soto lost the weight, he needs to re-lose it. Some people can actually lose weight without roiding up, and I would think that an MLB player would have access to more assistance in that regard than Joe & Jane Schmo. It's fine to be an overweight player when you're successful; when you're not, expect your weight to be an issue.

If it's a nagging injury, DL him and rehab it.
