I don't want to write this season off yet, but I was talking with a co-worker today about the Bulls and the draft came up. What do you guys think about packaging the 2 first round draft picks to move up to #2 or #3 and get Hasheem Thabeet?

Ben Gordon did not participate in the shootaround this morning and described his hammy as "not good". He implied that he might not be able to play tonight.

Ugh, although Ive got confidence in BG trying to play. They guy took a shot at half just to be able to finish the last game, so if there is any way he can play he will.

Yeah I still think he'll play too, but this sucks. I was actually pretty confident that we could win there tonight. Hopefully this is a little bit of a posturing job, but I don't think that'd be something BG would do.

Isn't that a Celtic specialty?

I don't think the Bulls two first round picks will get them into the top 5.

Plus I'm not that enamored with Thabeet. I'd hope Henderson might slip out of the lottery so the Bulls can replace Gordon if he is gone next year. Or hope that DeJuan Blair is there.

No.

How about we include our two first round picks in a package that nets Bosh or Amare? That's the best case scenario.

Unless they resign, they should both be unrestricted FA's in 2010.

Yeah but more than likely, they'll both be in play this offseason if they can't agree to an extension. Teams don't want to lose them for nothing.

I must have missed something somewhere along the way. Why do we have two first rounders and what pick is the additional one?

We got a late first rounder from OKC (via Denver I think) for Thabo.

And neither one of them will be available for just draft picks. This team is starting to get very strong while still being young. There is a chance Gordon will be gone this off-season. Do we really want to give up more parts of this team to get a player that will be a FA in one more year?

It's far more likely they work some kind of sign and trade this offseason than that they actually leave next offseason on their own.

And it's going to be very, very, very tough for the Bulls to win without Gordon. Especially with Salmons feeling gimpy. They just won't have anyone besides Rose who can score.

That's why I said include the draft picks in a package for one of them. Obviously I realize that it's going to take more than draft picks to acquire anyone in the league, really because of having to match salaries and what not.

You have to start with Tyrus Thomas and the 16th pick and go from there. You only make the deal if you think you can re-sign Amare or Bosh.

So if BG is out or plays limited minutes am I crazy for wanting Kirk to guard Rondo and putting Rose on Allen and Salmons on Pierce? I can live with Allen going off as long as Rondo isn't cuting the Bulls up on the interior again. I think Salmons will do an ok job on Pierce (although Kirk is the best Pierce defender by far). Rondo is clearly the head of the snake at this point and I'd like to put our best on the ball defender on him.

I hate to say it but this is the sort of game where you miss Thabo. Hunter will have to give us some minutes again.

No, I think the Bulls have been doing it right. Among Pierce/Allen/Rondo, you still want your worst defender on Rondo, as you'd rather make him beat you than the other 2. Never Allen.

Really? Because at this point in their careers, Allen and Pierce are basically jump shooters. Rondo is devastating on the break and when he gets to the rim because he can set up Perkins and Baby. I'd rather slow him down and let one of Pierce/Allen get theirs.

Obviously if both Allen and Pierce are going off then you have major problems.

Paul Pierce is not "basically a jump shooter"

Out of the top scorers in the game he takes more jump shots than almost all of them. Kobe Bryant is basically a jump shooter. Michael Jordan late in his career was a basically a jump shooter. Dirk, Granger, Joe Johnson, and Ben Gordon are jump shooters. It's not a pejorative thing.

He's not taking it as an insult, he's saying that Pierce isn't a jump shooter. He drives to the lane an awful lot, ESPECIALLY when Garnett is on the floor. He might have adapted to one for this series, but trust me he's more than a jump shooter.
