He can even catch in a pinch, though he’s playing more left field than anywhere else, which is a testament to how quickly the Cubs believe his bat will move.

There's some truth to that, but I'll wait and see if the Cubs are just letting him focus on his hitting right now and will put him through a catching intensive this year at instructs. How he fares there will tell the Cubs a lot about his future position. The significance of Schwarber being able to stick at catcher is not lost on this front office. Hoyer said he'll be given every chance to stay there, and I believe him. Add in Schwarber's strong desire to play catcher, his work ethic and that he's shown well behind the plate so far this season (better than most experts expected), and I'm not giving up on him yet.

BP definitely sounds like they'll be the highest on Schwarber amongst the major prospect rankings.

If a lot of those guys pan out, that lineup would be like the great Red Sox and Yankee lineups from the late 90s and 2000s. Loaded with guys who would be middle of the order hitters on most clubs, and lots of "base cloggers."

How many homeruns would

SS Russell

RF Soler

1B Rizzo

LF Bryant

2B Baez

C Schwarber

3B Castro

CF Alcantara

hit?

A lot.

2014 HR per 550 PA:

SS Russell - 27.5 (35.7 as a Cub)

RF Soler - 32.9

1B Rizzo - 28.3

LF Bryant - 42.1

2B Baez - 31.7

C Schwarber - 34.4

3B Castro - 13.4

CF Alcantara - 14

Obviously some of those minor league numbers will come down significantly at the big league level, but if you ignore context it looks so much cooler.

Not as many as

SS Russell

3B Bryant

LF Soler

CF Alcantara

RF Stanton

(and I have no idea how I only give up Castro but end up with Stanton)

Well, presumably you're also sending Almora as part of that deal.

We can sign 5 mediocre starters with that lineup.

Hell you wouldn't have to sign anyone, Arietta, Hendricks, Turner, Wood, and Wada have it in them to be mediocre +.

How many left handed pitchers would call in sick rather than facing Stanton, Bryant, Baez, Soler & Russell?

if the marlins actually want to trade him they won't do much better than castro, almora, edwards/johnson

that seems like an awful deal for the marlins

On Schwarber & Caratini from Mark Gonzales at the Trib.

The determination that Schwarber has shown since signing a $3.125 million bonus has confirmed what one American League scouting director witnessed watching him in college at Indiana and what Cubs executives learned last February during an interview and at a tournament in Surprise, Ariz.

"To say he has been better than advertised is fairly accurate," said Tim Cossins, the Cubs' minor league catching coordinator. "He has a desire to catch and has the natural ability to catch. His makeup, which is completely off the charts, has been the separator to his development thus far. He's catching very well."

Oh God I hope he sticks at catcher. That would make things so much more amazing

I know. As exciting as the Cubs future line-up already is, Schwarber staying at catcher is somewhat of a game changer.

If he doesn't stay there, a trade of one of the Cubs top prospects/young core players becomes much more likely. Add Schwarber, Bryant and Russell (probably the 3 safest prospects to make it) to the existing line-up and someone's got to go.

Big if, but if Rizzo, Castro, Alcantara, Baez, Soler, Bryant and Russell are all average to above average starters and Schwarber is playing close to what he is now when in AAA, if he's not playing catcher, there's no room for him.

Huh? If he stays there, that would seem to be the least obtrusive to the rest of them.

Unless you're including Castillo as a core piece, which, whatever. I'd be fine with him as a backup C.

Sorry, left out the "doesn't" before the stay.

Does your hot sauce preference lean more Tabasco or Cholula?

Sriracha destroys them both like Jorge Soler murders baseballs.
