I said this all the second half of last year, and been saying it again this year. Dlee is not driving the ball the other way anymore. He rolled over on the outside pitch and grounded it out to SS all last year.

I feel if he starts driving the ball the other way his hitting can turn around quickly. I was pretty happy with the way he actually took that oustide pitch to RF at the end of the game tonight.

I think its either one of two things..

1) He has been trying to pull the ball because his power numbers have dropped. So hes trying to go deep..

2) He is trying to pull the ball because his hands arent quick enough anymore and he's trying to react quicker. (This is a big problem in many players decline) - which could have been caused by his broken wrist.

If its problem 1, that is fixable. I hope its problem 1 and he can turn it around by focusing on going the other way again.

If its problem 2, that meens DLee is on a fast downhill slope to mediocrity if his bat speed is in the decline already and he's trying to pull the ball because of his lack of bat speed.

Do you agree?

Mediocrity would be preferable to what he's doing at the moment

he may have hit a sac fly there but in general I'm not too happy about his warning track power

He still drove the ball the other way with authority. Something he hasnt done much of lately.

Derrek Lee is a subpar hitter and needs to be moved down in the order ASAP. He really kills us hitting 2-25 or whatever in the 3 hole.

4-2 record we're hardly being killed. But I agree with the other accessment.

After the 1st two games of the season we were ready to bench/release Fuku. I do agree that he should probably be hitting 5th or so, but he will get hot at some point soon.

His bat just looks reeeaallllyyyyyy slow, and that's not a good sign. He probably stopped going the other way because the slowness of his bat forces him to start early to catch up to fastballs.

that doesn't make any sense. if his bat was slowing down a lot he should go the opposite way a lot because he can't get around on a good fastball. see jim edmonds in 2007-08, he went oppo all the time, a lot more than he did earlier in his career.

It seems like Lee is guessing at the plate. He's watching hittable fastballs go over the plate and late on the ones he does swing at. I haven't seen a huge difference in bat speed, just that he seems late starting his swing. It's almost like he isn't seeing the ball well enough.

derrek lee is not jim edmonds

as long as lee conntinues to try and pull outside pitches (like he has been for about a year now) he's not going to be that good

I agree that his bat speed does look like it's down. I think he's just struggling to make contact, so he's not trying to drive the ball much anymore.

You'd think he'd figure this out by now, though, or Lou or Perry would have pointed it out to him. It's gotta be more than that. I refuse to believe any hitter could be that dumb.
