Well today has been a huge bust. It looked like a good day for couch lock but then the Cubs lose, Hawks lose, and the Lakers/Rockets game is completely boring.

The refs missed a few calls, but they weren't horrible. And the Wings were disciplined. They are very experienced and they know what they can get away with in the playoffs. And they are putting that experience into action.

Two times off the top of my head:

 

Havlat driving into the zone getting slashed/hooked for at least 25 feet by TWO people.

 

Kane late into an extended time in the O-Zone getting interfered with big time.

 

If either of those calls are called it's not like it really affects the outcome of the game... but you NEED to call those.

I'd like to see Toews and Kane split up. Toews looked very good out there, and Q is (rightly or wrongly, I think rightly) scared to put Kane out there much at even-strength.

Kane is scared of contact when he has to carry the puck in... it seems like the Wings have two people ready to pound the puck carrier into the boards every time down the ice. You can't be afraid to get roughed up, one of the only ways you're going to get any kind of sustained pressure in the offensive zone you have to be like Toews/Campbell/Burish who will dump it in, take the hit and keep going.

Even after that dud of a third period, I'm still not worried about this series. We played two and a half terrible periods against Vancouver in Game 1 of that series before we took control for the better part of that series. I'm looking for a much more physical and active attack from the Hawks in Game 2. We'll be fine.

the wings are the defending cup champions and the most talented team in hockey; even if you still think the hawks can win the series i think there's reason to be concerned, based purely on how good the other team is.

The Red Wings are the better team now and won, no problem with that but, it sucks when a scrub like Cleary is the one who scored the big goals.
