as someone said earlier, this is the hockey equivalent of you rooting for the Cardinals to beat the Red Sox in the WS because you have a weird beef with Dustin Pedroia.

the fact that you have a cache of video evidence about a hockey player you've never met is really creepy.

no one in sports weighs on my mind as much as Crosby apparently weighs on yours

Type in Crosby Dive on You Tube and you'll get about a hundred more... it's not like I had those specific instances memorized.

lol sure you didn't

what a creepshow

well that was an ass kicking. Pittsburgh couldn't do crap after the first 5 minutes. Penguins can't beat the Wings in Detroit, so even if it goes 7, they'll lose

chicago locals, be sure to do whatever you possibly can to avoid ambulance rides

Seriously Cyno. It's one thing to hate Crosby. But donning a Wings avatar? That's too far man. The Wings are the enemy.

Who the hell cares?

while I dont deny that Zetterberg enhanced his reaction, a 2 handed slash on the back of the calf is painful and really cheap.....At least it was a real penalty. Crosby's dive on the Maltby play was embarrassing and not even a penalty. Maybe Crosby just needs to work on his timing :)

seems like you have to overreact to get a penalty these days, especially in the finals. maybe I don't understand the nuances of the penalty calling, but guys get cross-checked in the back repeatedly every time the puck is stuck along the boards, and guys are slashing at each other constantly. there is also interference going on all the time.

I guess it's like holding penalties in football; there is holding on every play, so only the really egregious holds are called?

Last nights game was almost an exact replica of game 4 between the Wings/Hawks

Yeah, it seemed that way.

The NHL gives a lot of room for subjectivity in its rules. Yes you are right, just about everytime the puck is in the corner you could probably call penalities. one of the main criteria for calling a cross check is did you actually rear back and whack the opposing player with your stick. If you just use your stick to push the player than it usually isnt a crosscheck. Most corner work it is hard to really pull back and give someone a good cross check. I think cross checking is like porn, it is hard to define but I know it when I see it. It has been this way for the entire 30 yrs I have been a hockey fan.

Slashing and interference have really morphed through the years. Used to be a slash was a slash. Now it is only called a slash if you break a stick or you slash someone in a non padded area. I dont even want to get into interference, because that seems to change monthly. But interference used to be called everytime you impeded someone without the puck. Now its really hard to define. So what is happening is the players are defining it by diving. This feels like interference, so to make sure the refs call it I am going to dive. Same as slashing, to ensure the refs know I have been slashed I need to react. I have said if the refs would call penalties correctly, the diving would clean itself up pretty quick. Often NHL officials call penalties based on the damage done and not the crime committed.

the slashing is what kills me. every time the guy with the puck skates by someone, the defender is whacking at his stick/legs and it's never called

So I thought Game 6 would have been on tonight seeing how Game 5 was on Saturday night and of course, there's no game to speak of. The NHL is a joke. You try to schedule your seven-game series around the NBA Finals and instead you have two days off before a possible series-clinching game as well as competing against the NBA? Real smart move there, Bettman.

the finals schedule was set after the Conference finals, was the NBA finals already set? they were still in the middle of their conference finals.

I think the NBA Finals was set immediately after the Lakers beat the Nuggets. I remember that there was something said that the NHL was trying to schedule around the NBA Finals, and of course half of the games in the Stanley Cup Final will be played on the same night as the NBA Finals.

I don't really understand why the NHL needs two days off in between games, especially when they had that weird back-to-back start to open up the series.

The back to back games to start the series was decided several months ago. If the Wings didnt win in game 5 against the Hawks they were going to start the finals the next weekend on back to back nights. Its NBC who is driving the schedule. I dont know what they have on Monday nights, but they didnt want to take it off for Stanley Cup hockey is my guess.

the more important question is why did the NBA have 4 or 5 days off between the end of the conference finals and the beginning of the league finals?

goalies were awesome in this game.

pitt was way better tonight and deserved to win, but that ending sucked.

I agree Hossa was a no show and deserved the tongue lashing he got from NBC....When are they going to call Crosby what he has been this series also...huge no show

yeah, Osgood and Fleury and Scuderi were all great in net

I think all 12 players on the ice were either in the crease or in the net when Scuderi was netminding.
