I wonder how long Lee gets before hes moved down the lineup? Im not one of those people who says give Hoffpauir the starting job, but Lee is long past the point where hes an option for the more imprtant spot in the lineup. Ramirez, Bradley, Soto would be a better 3-4-5 option than what we have, and you could do a hell of a lot worse than Derrek Lee as your 6 hitter. Lees never been a selfish player, and hed probably understand the move. Its not like Im saying move him to the 8 hole. Id even say try Fontenot as the 3 hitter if he can ever learn to hit lefties.

After four games last season:

Geovany Soto - 2 for 12, 3 walks

Aramis Ramirez - 2 for 13, 3 walk

Alfonso Soriano - 1 for 17, 1 walk

Calm down you crazy bastards.

Yeah, not to mention the bullpen probably looked worse then than now.

2-2. How awesome is it that the Brewers are celebrating beating us like they won the world series? Are they the ultimate little brother or what?

Dude, every team that wins on a walkoff celebrates like that. Especially when you are trailing to start the inning. And it was their home opener. Give it a rest.

Why throw home off your back foot when you know your arm isn't strong enough to do that when you can attempt to turn a double play?

attempt to start a double play with his poor arm when braun has pretty good speed, hit the ball to the third base side of SS and didn't hit it particularly hard? if they'd tried to turn the DP braun would've been safe by a step and a half and you'd be here bitching that theriot didn't throw home.

I would have supported the higher percentage play, which in this instance would have been trying to turn two. Braun doesn't have good speed, and he's running from the 3rd base side of the bag. If you arm sucks, it stands to reason maybe he should make the shorter throw.

An excellent point. Woody blew his first save against the Brewers too.

Eh, I guess it was their opener. Forgot about that.

We all complain about Soriano but who really needs to be moved down in the order is Lee, my god between last years, "lee with a grounder to the shortstop, second, double play". I would much rather have Ramirez or Bradley there, hell even Soto

I think everyone is on board with you here. I'm not really sure how I'd do it. All three of the options you mentioned sound pretty good.

Soriano

Fukudome

Ramirez

Bradley

Soto

Fontenot

Lee

Theriot

That's probably how I'd do it.

Except Braun does have good speed. Not Ichiro speed or anything, but there was a lower chance of Theriot turning two than getting Weeks at home.

Theriot made the right call at the end of the game there... and even if you don't believe it was the right call, to pretend it isn't easily defensible is dishonest.

The problem is, fans live in the now. They don't look at the big picture, they just look at whats happening right now, and if something isn't working right now, they want it fixed. If we could all only calm down and look at the bigger picture, which part of it is...its been 4 games!!...we would all be better off. But since we don't, we see Lee slumping and we want to DFA him or something.

Lee's been bad for more than 4 games though. Lee's been bad since about month 3 last year. Lee is a real concern.

BTW, this day can be a lot happier if the Hawks can gain a point to secure the 4 seed, and if Charlotte can lose to clinch a playoff spot for the Bulls.

Not DFA, just moved down in the order

He tried to call off outfielders on a flyball into left center.

the outfielder - soriano - got a bad jump on a routine fly ball. you're ripping a shortstop for not making a catch on a lazy fly ball to left field.

He tried to throw home when he was at double play depth on the last play of the game.

it was the only play he had. you're letting your hatred for theriot distort your view of the game. trying to turn two on that play would have been a terrible decision.

Sori didn't get a bad jump. He was badly positioned... which is more the fault of the coaching staff and Lou.

My ideal:

Theriot

Fukudome(as long as hes producing, I wouldnt move him)

Soriano

Ramirez

Bradley

Lee

Soto

Fontenot

P

More logical

Soriano(if he were to moved out of leadoff, it would have already hapened)

Fukudome

Ramirez

Bradley

Soto

Lee

Fontenot

Theriot

P

Lets focus on the positive here: would we rather get a win with Harden looking like he did in spring training and have a week of worrying about him? He dominated. He looked like he did when we first got him. If we win the next 2, like we should, we wont remember this one, but if Harden looked shakey and got the win anyway, wed be worrying about him all week.

True, but Lou made the decision to start the year hitting 3rd, so I think he deserves the opportunity to prove that last year was just a prolonged slump and not a sign that he is declining as a player. And 4 games isn't enough time to determine that.

Before I foget, why is nobody questioning Lou using a defensive replacement for Fukudome when Soriano is by far the bigger defensive liability?

Soriano isn't a defensive liability.

The best move for the team is probably to pull Bradley and move Fukudome to right... if you absolutely feel the need to use a defensive replacement. I wouldn't.

I said that. Soriano should have caught that ball Weeks hit. He broke inwards, making it impossible for him to get back and catch the ball. He is a huge goat in the game, because if he catches that, theres a runner on 1st and 2 outs with Hart coming up.

A lot of what-ifs in this one.

Well then his noodle arm prevented him from making a decent throw. The problem is that Theriot "haters" have ample ammunition, at least on the defensive side.

All I have to say about Theriot is he better keep getting on base, or he becomes a total liability.

It was hit to his right so there are no easy options, but especially after watching how much he was able to get on his throw home, it's clear we would've been better off gambling on Fontenot's arm beating Braun than having Theriot try to stop himself and make a looong throw(he was at double play depth for a reason) to get Weeks on a tag play.

No, I said what I said. I'm not upset at him for not catching it, in the game thread I said Soriano needed to get there. I'm saying it's stupid for him calling for it and potentially causing the other outfielders to not be able to get to it. It's a dumb decision on his part.

And before that, he was looking like the DLee of old. Considering I read an article lately where he claimed to have been battling nagging injuries all through the second half of last year, I don't see a problem with taking a deep breath and acting rationally.

I didnt understand the point to begin with. Is Gathright even a good enough outfielder to warrant the move 2 games in a row?
