at 92 pitches, that has to be his last inning

if so, that is a really good start by carpenter

Yeah looks very near his CY Young form of a few years ago, he could easily win 16-20 games this year if he stays healthy.

With him and a healthy Wainright going, color me worried.

Wow the Cardinals took a 2-1 lead with the bases loaded 0 outs, and somehow the Pirates got out of it without any further damage.

Carpenter's thrown 25 innings combined the last two years. I have a lot of doubt of Carpenter's ability to be effective for a full season, which they need with their lack of pitching depth. And whatever chance there is of him being healthy and effective is mitigated by Wainwright's injury history.

Oh come on, it was one game. I doubt both Carpenter and Wainright will stay healthy.

FN cards win

Gamecast made that look really close to a straight away CF homer. Was it close?

Warning Track

Radio guy made it sound like he was at the wall...I can hear the fireworks go off outside my window so I know a little before it comes over the radio but didn't get to see it. Sounds like there was a great diving play by Greene to get the first out, and then the long fly to deep center to get the last out...it got the win, but it seems like the Cards still may have bullpen issues.

I used to hate those damn fireworks when I worked across from the park.

Just for fun, here are a list of players with at least 6 ABs this year that are still hitless:

Mike Jacobs, KC - 0-6

Emmanuel Burriss, SF - 0-6

Alex Gonzalez, CIN - 0-6

Carlos Quinten, CWS - 0-7

Jason Kendall, MIL - 0-7

Pat Burrell, TB - 0-7

Dioner Navarro, TB - 0-8

JJ Hardy, MIL - 0-9

Milton Bradley, CHC - 0-9

Lastings Milledge, WAS - 0-9

Mark DeRosa, CLE - 0-10

Billy Butler, KC - 0-10

Garrett Atkins, COL - 0-11

The other 12 guys have combined for 11 BB and 3 R, while Bradley has 4 BB, 1 HBP, and 2 runs for himself.

How is Dewayne Wise not on that list?

I can't believe that was the Padres' First HR of the year....3-2 dodgers. Go Dodgers, beat the Padres (and make Peavey trade bait quicker!)

And MLB Network apparently has MLB 2K9 simulate each game they broadcast. They just showed the simulation of this game and the Giants beat the Brewers in 16 innings, 2-1.

I love how crappy the Brewer defense is. A throwing error leads to another run for the Giants. 3-0 Giants.

Apparently he'll be fine. They took him to the hospital and he'll need some stitches. However, the ball ricocheted off his face and into the stands.

Holy crap.

This. He may well be very good, but for how long? I can't imagine him going over 150 IP.
