I'm really curious to see what Chris Carpenter does today. How well he does (and how well his arm remains attached to his body) will go a long way toward determining how much of a threat the Cardinals will be this season. The Pirates may not be the best measuring stick, but it's what we got for now.

If the Cards can take care of the Pirates today, we'll FINALLY have sole posession of 1st for the 1st time this season. Go Cards!

Do not EVER root for the Cardinals unless you absolutely have to.

In other news, off days suck.

Happily, today is minor league baseball's opening day!

I really want to go to Peoria to catch tonight's game, but I have a class at 6 that will prevent me from going.

Omar Vizquel and Andruw Jones are slated to get their first starts for the Rangers today vs. Cleveland

and Jones is playing DH and slated for cleanup duty

Texas is a smart organization, but that's just asinine

Pirates score in the first, but I don't think Carpenter really did anything too bad.

It was the third.

He walked the leadoff hitter, got a ground ball but Pujols threw the ball away letting the runner get to third. The runner then scored on a FC to Albert. According to game day his velocity and movement have been pretty good. Trowing mainly fastballs and sliders.

Ronny Cedeno and Felix Pie both in the starting lineup today.

Pie is 2-2 with a run scored and just got caught stealing right before a double was hit (cost the O's the tying run)

Cedeno is 1-3

Through 6 now.

And of course the Cardinals game for some reason isn't showing up on my Extra Innings. All the other games work but not that one.

Just for fun, here are a list of players with at least 6 ABs this year that are still hitless:

Mike Jacobs, KC - 0-6

Emmanuel Burriss, SF - 0-6

Alex Gonzalez, CIN - 0-6

Carlos Quinten, CWS - 0-7

Jason Kendall, MIL - 0-7

Pat Burrell, TB - 0-7

Dioner Navarro, TB - 0-8

JJ Hardy, MIL - 0-9

Milton Bradley, CHC - 0-9

Lastings Milledge, WAS - 0-9

Mark DeRosa, CLE - 0-10

Billy Butler, KC - 0-10

Garrett Atkins, COL - 0-11

The other 12 guys have combined for 11 BB and 3 R, while Bradley has 4 BB, 1 HBP, and 2 runs for himself.

at 92 pitches, that has to be his last inning

if so, that is a really good start by carpenter

Yeah looks very near his CY Young form of a few years ago, he could easily win 16-20 games this year if he stays healthy.
