I've got a problem with Miles getting regular playing time more than anything else.

Lineups really don't matter. What matters the most are the players who make up those lineups.

I'm satisfied with this lineup. I thought this thread was going to be about Theriot batting anywhere but 8th, actually.

I would imagine Fukudome is on a relatively short leash and if he struggles him and Theriot get swapped in the lineup.

If guys on base for Soto is such a big concern, then an argument can be made to move him down to eighth, putting Theriot's .387 OBP in front of him. Of course, his three-year numbers aren't as good as either Bradley or Ramirez.

Rather than carping on where Soto is hitting, I like the idea that there's a bit more power just a bit further down in the line-up. A starter can't who gets the sixth batter as the first or second out in the inning can't relax on the idea that he won't get taken deep before the pitcher comes up.

Line-up construction is of course a very small thing, but there is evidence that mixing up the guys who can slug and the guys who get on base produces a bit better. Fontenot (who, of course, may have some power based on last year) followed Theriot seems to but two on-base guys together, and unless it's a PH or Z, the next guy isn't likely to get a big hit.

I also think it is wise to hint to Soto that he's not being counted on as a thumper. He's still only in his second year -- .350/.450 and a strong Sep and beyond will be just fine.

I like Soto a little lower for a couple reasons. Aside from lessening the perceived dependence on his production, he's also a catcher, who doesn't play everyday. When you insert Bako/Hill into the lineup on his off days, it won't require a big overhaul of the lineup.

Also, there's nothing wrong with having someone decent in the lower part of the order. We won a lot of games last year by getting good production 6-8.

yeah, i'm not hating this lineup that much either. not crazy about it, but i'm not hating it.

like some of you mentioned though, i'd rather Soto bat in the middle behind Bradley though.

if anything, it would require 1-2 people in the lineup moving down. i don't see that as being significant at all.

but i agree with those who don't have a problem with this.

According to the Cubs.com board someone heard on ESPN 1000 that Lou said that he still isn't sure who is batting 3/5/7 between Lee/Ramirez/Soto. There is still hope that Ramirez could get the #3 spot which is the best option IMO. I don't see Lou putting Lee 7th to start the year and Lee will have to play himself out of the 5 spot before he is moved below that.
