this was a weird quote from lou.

"It's amazing that he's been doing all his drills, he's been doing the running, and his legs have felt great."

he must have little confidence in bradey's legs if he feels it's amazing that they still are okay after like a week

it's true, if he's healthy he's going to hit and he'll probably be the best hitter on the team.

unless he puts up his career numbers. then he'll be like the 4th or 5th best hitter on the team.

Wrong, Lord, his dreaded road OPS last year would've made him the cubs second best hitter last year.

while we're on that topic, who would that award go to? derek lowe for 4/60? burnett for 5/80? renteria for 2/18? i feel like i'm missing someone

Aaron Miles 2/5

i don't see how you can call a 5 million dollar commitment the biggest blunder of the offseason.

Ryan Dempster

that remains to be seen but it could definitely end up that way. at least he was legitmately good last season, as opposed to have gotten lucky with a flukey era or something.... like when the astros traded for jason jennings and said he'd be a solid number 2 starter.

burnett, krod, fuentes

calling it the biggest "blunder" of the offseason is a little overkill

or just outright wrong

Especially when it's only a 2y at 20m deal if he doesn't play 125 plus games.

So was Estaban Loaiza with the white sox in 2003. Then the rest of the time he's been legitmately terrible

i still haven't seen where that is coming from. the only thing i've seen is that he only has to spend less than 90 days on the DL in 2009 to guarantee the 3rd year.

i never said dempster would or would not end up good or bad. just that you can't say yet whether or not that was an awful contract. it looks bad right now, but we don't know. desmpter could regress quite a bit from last season and still make the contract "okay". If he has like a 1.30 WHIP and a 3.90 ERA it wouldn't be that bad and those numbers aren't unrealistic

It might not have been technically the offseason but Lohse signed his 4@41 deal in October, that could end up being bad.

most people will not regard the closer contracts as bad deals unless they completely bomb.

Francisco Cordero makes me think of your comment. Not worth the $46M.

Mark DeRosa traded to Cleveland is the biggest Cubs blunder this offseason (even bigger than letting Wood walk), and is probably one of the 5 dumbest moves this offseason.

If the people who evaluate offseason moves are 16 year old girls and overweight cheesecake eating housewives.

They didn't call it the biggest blunder, though. They called it ONE of the biggest blunders.

Trading DeRosa was a smart move. I'm not huge on the prospects we got, but I had no problem with moving him. Fontenot could do a similar job starting for a fraction of the cost.

The blunder was in signing Aaron Miles as his replacement.
