Z and Harden to miss first run through rotation

My first instinct is to think that they are hurt, but then rational thought takes over and suggests that maybe they are just being conservative with their top pitches due to the extra long spring training. Either way, its worth some discussion.

Pitching coach Larry Rothschild said he had not scheduled Carlos Zambrano or Rich Harden yet. Each will miss the first run through the rotation. Harden is the only starter who has yet to throw batting practice.

Harden and Lou have both said that he'll be ready opening day. And they've been saying all along that Harden would start ST behind the other guys and that they were going conservative with he and Z due to the extra length of ST.

sweet, another season opening loss

can't wait

over/under on the nsbb meltdown of "God this team has too many holes, we're in trouble!!!!" i say 5th inning when we're down 7-1.

last year we barely made it into the second series of the season before that garbage started

Manager Lou Piniella said Saturday that he plans on holding Carlos Zambrano back until the second or third week of spring training games.

''There's no reason,'' Piniella said. ''There's just no hurry.'' Spring training is 30 percent longer this year, so most players are gearing up at a slower pace while maintaining their conditioning. Rich Harden is on the same pace as Zambrano.

Even the worst case scenerio rotation of Dempster, Lilly, Marshall, Heilman, Samardzjia is as good as any in the division.

Still, I wouldnt read too much into it. If they miss a few additional turns, then I might.

You think that rotation is as good as Cincy or Milwaukee?

When did Milwaukee acquire a rotation?

Milwaukee's questionable, but the above rotation is Houston-esque.

Milwaukee? Without a doubt.

Gallardo has the potential to be something special, but beyong him, Parra, Bush, Suppan, Looper is nothing to fear.

Cincy? Its a crap shoot. The could eaither have an amazing rotation or an awful one.

If Harang goes back to '06-'07, theres an ace. If not, a 4 or 5.

If Volquez gives a repeat performance, theres another ace. If not, who knows.

If Cueto gives them his potantial, theres a solid number 2 type starter, maybe better. If not, who knows.

Arroyo has always looked brilliant one moment, and awful the next.

If Homer Baily can hit his potential, theres another quality starter. If not, Micah Owings should be a more than sufficient number 5 starter.

The difference between a mediocre Cubs roation and a mediocre Brewers, Astros, Cards, or Reds rotation is even if Z and Harden were to missthe start of the season, wed still be getting them probably get them back before long.

Even if Milwaukee had the opportunity to trade for another starter, the question remains would they be willing to part with more top prospects for another rent-a-player?

Am I the only person who saw the thread title and thought that it meant they would miss the first turn through the season and not ST?
