...or something....Bernie barely hides his dislike of "newfangled statistical analysis" here, and really blames Jeff Luhnow for being the cause of the breakup of the TLR, Jocketty, Dewitt triumvirate.

I especially love when columnists contradict themselves in the same column:

Luhnow clearly has DeWitt's ear, which means that the front office has essentially refused to deal their best prospects for short-term help. And remember, that was the Jocketty-La Russa formula for success.

followed two paragraphs by

Last season the Cardinals had a surprisingly solid 86-win season, in large part, because La Russa embraced change and gave meaningful playing time to younger or ascending players. The Cardinals had 11 players make their major-league debut in 2008. And La Russa seems genuinely enthusiastic about giving prospects Colby Rasmus, David Freese and any number of young second-base candidates a chance to stick and start.

Success by trading for short-term help, or success by playing draftees?

Did you scroll through the whole story or just look at the first few graphs which were independent thoughts that needed to be separate paragraphs in order to get the full effect of the writing?

Bernie is the worst. It's cliche to make fun of his weight at this point, but he has a fat kid vs jock mentality when he deals with Tony.

I saw him about a year ago at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. He's easily in the 350 pound area. I was surprised to see him up here since I heard he doesn't travel as much due to his weight. I laughed the time he was on PTI and Tony Kornheiser kept calling him "Big guy."

They wrote an article about how the Cubs would never break the curse, including some cheesy little "poem" trashing the Cubs.

thank God the Cubs really showed them who's boss. by getting swept out of the playoffs two years in row.

Yeah, I almost respect him. Then I see his hair.

He does look a little like he inspired Blago's haircut. Seriously, it makes sense. That's where he gets it. I always knew Blago was a closet cardinals fan.

I don't know any self-respecting Cardinals fan who listens to Bernie. I haven't liked the guy for a decade. His squabble with TLR is absurd. I think he just really wants a seat on Around The Horn.

I really think he'd bitch and moan no matter what we did with the team. He enjoys tending to his flock of reactionary Cards Talk posters. For some fun, go over there today and read the dozens of comments I'm guessing will pop up today over Pujols stating that he wants to play on a winning team. Oh god, it's a travesty! Riot in the streets! The Cards organization is sabotaging the entire city!

It doesn't come through in that article, but he's about as statistically inclined as any mainstream journalist I've come across. He regularly has guys like Joe Sheehan from BP on his radio show. He was a guy who wasn't upset about Miles or Kennedy leaving because they weren't high OBP guys. He used the "new-fangled' thing for effect most likely.

And what's the issue with having a problem with LaRussa? He's a d-bag who thinks he's never been wrong and still vehemently denies that McGwire ever used steroids. I'd probably have a problem with the guy if I had to deal with him on a regular basis too.

It's the manner of his delivery, not the mere fact that he has a problem with LaRussa.
