So Favre apparently may not play tonight and has diagnosed himself with a cracked rib.

Blog says he's expected to play, though, so we'll see. If true, what a selfless warrior.

Favre hasn't had an official diagnosis, but he says taking a deep breath causes discomfort. The 39-year-old quarterback isn't listed on the injury report and no other other Vikings official mentioned the injury pregame.

Dangit...I wanted Jackson to get traded before Favre started getting dinged up.

That almost guarantees they'll go out after a QB. I saw Tyler Thigpen brought up somewhere, that seems like a really good idea to backup Brady.

I thought the Patriots signed Andrew Walter a couple of weeks back? :-k

They did. There have still been rumors floating around that they're interested in a backup QB and honestly, I don't see Andrew Walter as a primary backup for a Super Bowl contender.

i would be shocked if he got hurt, what with all the hard work he didn't put in during training camp.

Peterson is a baaaad dude.

Oh, and Childress said that Favre is perfectly fine. So maybe Brett saying that he had a broken rib was more egomaniacal behavior from him.

At this point, I can't imagine the Chargers not winning the AFC West. Unless the whole division goes 4-12 or something.

I'll say the Chiefs give them a good challenge

I'm thinking that the Chargers have the division wrapped up with three or four games left.

Is there any non-Viking fan that doesn't think this will end like it did last year for Favre?

Worst case scenario is he gets injured but plays through it and is bad like he was down the stretch last year.

Best case scenario is he plays well the first 10-12 games like last year, has to miss a few weeks and is able to come back for the playoff run refreshed.

Who knows how it will end. The odds are pretty good that he's going to break down at some point or get banged up. Then again he has the streak and will probably throw the ball less this year than any point in his career. He's a little more than a year older than Elway was when he won his last Super Bowl by accepting a reduced role on a loaded team. Nothing between disaster and deep playoff run would really surprise me.

@Adam_Schefter Sounds like QB Kyle Orton either strained or partially tore a tendon in his right index finger. Either way, he should be ready for Bengals.

lol @ Favre throwing illegal crackback blocks in the Wildcat

Sweet Jesus I just saw the video of that hit. Just terrible.

Favre looked pretty good to me last night. As a Bear fan, color me concerned. Looks like there's going to be 4 tough division games for each of the Bears, Packers, and Vikings this year as each team squares up against the others. I'm not sure we could say that in past seasons.

I'm expecting all 3 NFC North QBs to put up decent numbers this year, with Rodgers leading the way. That's how I'm reading it, anyway. Stafford -- just too young to make a difference yet.

NFL sources said that while Kyle Orton’s injured finger was not fractured, the Broncos quarterback suffered an open dislocation (meaning it penetrated the skin) of the right knuckle.

Favre looked exactly like I expected him to look in his first significant preseason action. He's going to look good at times early, but he will implode.

The way he was looking at his finger (and how nobody on the Denver bench seemed to care that their starting QB was staring at his bloody bent finger) suggested it was more than just a simple cut. He looked horrified.

Yeah, and I couldn't figure how he'd bloodied his finger on Ogunleye's hand, without it being a compound fracture...I guess this explains it.

Favre's always been a great technician on the halfback screens, which probably doesn't seem like a big deal until you realize Orton and Grossman could never execute one to save their lives.

jeez, i finally saw the favre block from last night. what an [expletive] move. i bet he's trying to prove he's gonna be a tough guy for his new teammates or something other [expletive] logic from the hillybilly.

Honestly I think he got caught in a position he is not used to being and reacted wrong. If he goes into that same formation later in the year I bet we don't see another block like that.

I'm not really interested in giving him that benefit of the doubt.

And most people won't. I've never cared for the guy, and don't like the Packers at all. But the level of hatred this guy has gotten over the past 6 months is still funny to me.

The NFL is investigating, as I understand it...

Gruden was saying, "but he told us he had bad ribs.."

Yes, Jon. He lied. Like he always does.
