According to Tony Jackson of the Los Angeles Daily News, the Dodgers and Manny Ramirez have agreed to terms.

You'd think ESPN would have picked up on this by now. I see nothing on their site or any other about this.

ESPN has just reported that Manny has rejected the Dodgers recent 2/45 offer.

The guy is a moron. Who else is in the bidding? If the Dodgers were smart they'd just say the hell with it and sign someone else.

I wish I could get paid 45 million dollars for the next 2 years of my life to play a game I love. Oh, I'd play naked too for that kind of money.

Yeah I don't get the thinking here, 2@45 is more than a fair offer, especially with the 2nd year being a player option incase the market is better next year for him. I for one wouldn't be sad if Manny is sitting at home on opening day.

Maybe if he wouldn't have been such a whiny you-know-what at the end of his Boston tenure, he'd be getting more offers and more money. He can produce, but when he wants to.

Manny Rejects Dodgers' Offer

By Drew Silva [February 26 at 10:46pm CST]

10:46pm: Press release from the Dodgers: Manny has rejected their latest offer. In the release, Dodgers' owner Frank McCourt expresses his frustration with Manny and Scott Boras. He says the Dodgers are negotiating against themselves and improved their offer despite the economy.

Seriously, can the league just black list this a hole? Does he really think that he'll get a 4 year deal after the crap he pulled in Boston, especially from The Dodgers, who if they had any sense theyd be more than gun shy about offering any more potentially awful deals?

So if the Dodgers walk away like they should, who becomes the front-runner in the Manny sweepstakes?

Nobody is going to give him nearly as much as the offer he just rejected.

I'd love for Mr. Ricketts to say he wants him. Manny hitting them onto Waveland in a Cubs uniform? Yes, please. Although the headaches he would cause would probably outweigh his production.

I know it won't happen, but a guy can dream.

I would love to see the high strung Bradley and the aloof Manny as our corner OF. Put a guy who may not speak a great deal of English between them and this has the makings of a sit com.

I read on Dodgerblues that some of the money was deferred, and he'd only be making 10 mil the next two seasons in the deal he rejected yesterday, and that's why he rejected it. Not sure how true that is, seems kind of unlikely. But, if it is true, it would be more understandable why he declined it.

Not so fast. The L.A. Times is reporting he rejected it because $25 million of the money would have been deferred.

He would have gotten $10 million this year, $10 million next, and then $10 mil in 2011, 2012, and $5 mil in 2013.

As much as I like to roast rich athletes as much as the next guy...where do I sign? Make it $12.5 this, $12.5 next, and $10 deferred for the next two seasons.

Impossible, but I guess I'm trying to say knowing the deferment it isn't that overwhelming of an offer.

In this economy, I don't think I'd accept deferred payments from anyone, even sports teams.

That's a good point, but I'm sure the money would be backed up by MLB in a legal dispute.

The Dodgers are now basically saying "show us these magical offers from other teams and maybe we'll continue negotiating with you." In other words, "Boras, you're full of Howry and you're not going to get us to bid against ourselves"

Though I know I should probably think Manny is stupid, I think it's awesome. I hope he ends up playing for the nationals. Or the cubs. Cubs are good too.

i'm hating manny more and more every day. i truly hope that the dodgers pull the offer and walk away for good. no one else seems interested in manny's services. it would be hilarious to watch him have to sign a small deal, say 10 million, in a couple months because no one else will pay him more than that.

Manny specifically requested a 4 year deal. If they won't give 1 to him, well, the Dodgers need Manny more than Manny needs the Dodgers. Sucks to be the Dodgers.
