Marinelli would make for a good coordinator, where he doesn't have input on roster decisions or the authority to spread his stupid methodology to the whole team

Agreed, he'd be a solid replacement for Babich (I like what he did in Tampa).

Marinelli I think could fit in with a lot of the teams in the running for D-Coordinators and would love him in Chicago

I've seen Anquan Boldin mentioned a few times in this thread. Is he an unrestricted free agent or is he restricted?

I think restricted....He wants out of Arizona, but It would cost a lot to pry him away from them

He's probably better off going to a d-line coach. He'd avoid the media a lot more, and any media group is going to take the chance to talk about 0-16 as much as they can if Marinelli becomes a coordinator there.

I say buy low on TO and hope to get 2 seasons out of him. He wouldn't have a Witten/Williams type to compete with for catches. He'd have much less leverage to act like an ass, since he's no longer coming off the big super bowl run, he's finished with back to back disappointing seasons, and he wouldn't have an insane owner defending his every word. Unless Burress is healthy and available.

Neither. He has 2 years left on his contract. Arizona refused to trade him last year, but if he demands a trade again I guess it's possible they deal him this year. Whoever traded for him would have to rip up his current deal and give him huge money.

Probably true....I was just saying he's a good defensive coach though, but D-line would probably be a good idea on any team

Again, someone please explain the Marinelli love to me? What did he exactly do in tampa? Besides being a defensive line coach that at the same time had two HOF caliber players on it?

He was a complete disaster in Detroit. Forget about the 0-16 record and other bad seasons...what footprint did he have on that defense? They didn't do a single thing well. They were undiciplined, they couldn't stop the pass, coudln't stop the run. What player truly developed in that defense? Ernie Simms was supposed to be a can't miss prospect..what has he done? That is pretty sad considering WILL linebacker in a cover 2 defense is a position that is setup for success.

Personally, I'm sick of the the Lovie's Boys network. Here's a name I want..Greg Williams.

What's even more sad is that they don't even know how to probably copy the Tampa 2 that Tampa Bay and Indy run. First off where is the dominant SS?(Please don't say Mike Brown). What about the elite pass rushing DE? I don't see a Simeon Rice, definelty no Dwight Freeney. They simply don't have the players to run this scheme and are in a constant state of denial.

I'm not sure love is the appropriate word. But I also think it's a mistake to dismiss a coach's positional coaching ability based on his team's results as a head coach.

I already said throw out Wins and Losses....Why was that team so terrible on defense year in and year out? Don't say personal. Not when Bill Belliciek can take 6 UDFA and 5 old guys from a Boston retirement home to form a comptetive D. Marinelli was brought in as a defensive guru and didn't foster one defensive strenght on that team his entire tenure. Huge red flag.

Bears GM Jerry Angelo said Tuesday that Kyle Orton will face competition for his starting job in 2009.

Angelo is going against coach Lovie Smith's endorsement of Orton earlier in the week, indicating severe discord in the franchise. "We have to get that position right," Angelo said. "I know there's going to be a lot of talk about a No. 1 receiver. Guys, it starts with the quarterback. You don't win because of wide receivers." No, but it certainly helps. Joe Montana couldn't throw 20 touchdowns in a season with Marty Booker and Rashied Davis at wideout.

Uh-oh, Lovie. Being contradicted in public by your boss cannot be good. Safe to say, Angelo will prolly be looking for a QB this offseason.

Angelo went out of his way to praise Urlacher yesterday. David Haugh theorizes that a cynic might think Angelo is building up Brian's trade value. Urlacher for McNabb or Carson Palmer? Linebacker would be a lot easier spot to draft for Angelo than anything offensively.

Severe dischord? I think that's taking it a bit too far. Lovie said Kyle's the QB -- which is the ready-made comment he has on speed dial whenever a reporter lets slip a QB question. It doesn't mean there won't be competition for QB next tranining camp.

And when you consider there is no real competition currently on the roster, it makes even more sense for Lovie to say Kyle is the QB.

Hurray they fired the secondary coach, passing defense to improve! Babich is way more to blame than this guy. This is a scapegoat move just to make a move.
