Ramon hernandez to Reds for Freel and others?

Ryan Freel, Brandon Waring and Justin Turner for Ramon Hernandez (and cash, I think?).

sounds like Derek Lowe is close to becoming the next Yankee pitcher to have an injury-plagued 4 year contract

Wow. 4 yrs for him at age 35? Bad call by Cashman, but I guess they can absorb the hit if he only gives them two good yrs.

I thought they were steering away from this sort of thing after Pavano, Wright, etc.

Would have liked to get in on the Lowe or Burnett action if we didn't land Peavy, but it looks like those two will be gone by the time the Peavy thing is settled one way or the other.

So, it pretty much seems like Peavy or bust for any rotation upgrade. Or Sheets, I guess, but that seems pretty unlikely to me.

2:04pm: Ken Rosenthal says the Cardinals offered Rick Ankiel and a prospect for Putz. The Tigers remain interested as well.

Seattle would be wise to take that IMO. Putz is a fantastic closer, but they need a lot of pieces.

Ankiel is an FA in a year tho.

After looking at Peavy and now Lowe's contract, I think if I were building a ballclub from scratch, I'd just build an obscene pitcher's park and sell high trading pitchers year after year after year.

Build a park so big that it can hold the result of a Bob Howry fastball.

Yes, because all those pitchers turned out to be just awful out of Oakland

Is Yellowstone big enough?

Seattle should make that deal and then flip Ankiel to the Cubs since the Cards won't trade him to us.

yes he has averaged only 33+ starts and 208 innings the past 7 seasons, that certainly screams "injury risk" to me
