Yeah he's a senior and isn't eligible for a medical redshirt.

Penn State's Sean Lee got a medical redshirt for this season (and he's a senior). Do you have to apply for it prior to your senior season?

Heisman

Has there ever been 1 time all 4 candidate invited to the selection played the same position? There have been close votes in the years past between 1 and 2 but 1 and 3? or even 1 and 4?, this year has got to be right up there.

No, He's not eligible for one because he was non-medically redshirted in 2004 by the Zooker. Had that one been a medical redshirt as well, he would have been eligible to petition the NCAA for a sixth year. Lee's medical redshirt was just an old-fashioned redshirt. There really is not such thing as a medical redshirt. You can petition the NCAA for extra ones, provided they're all medical related.

Here ya go Meph. You may have heard this already, but I found a slight update on Cameron Newton.

Huntley Johnson, Newton's lawyer, told me it's his understanding that the University Police Department is still investigating the matter and that no pre-trial hearing is currently in place. The Gators might address Newton's future after Saturday's SEC title game, or they might wait until after the bowl game.

ok so i guess what you are arguing is semantics. technically it would not be a redshirt, but he could petition the ncaa to be able to play ncaa football again next year, and he'd probably win (if he didn't play in the SEC championship game or the bowl game).

Tennessee's Brad Cottam had a similar situation to Ingram last year. He got hurt early in the year (before the first game, I think) and wasn't going to be able to play until the Vandy game or later. He applied for the medical redshirt, but the NCAA denied him. Thus he rushed back as quickly as he could so he could play some his senior year.

His and Ingram's situations are fairly similar, so I think Meph's right here.

so why would someone like that get denied but jason white would get 15 years to play at oklahoma?

I don't know. The NCAA rarely makes sense or explains the decisions they make.

I know Fulmer was pretty pissed off when Cottam was denied, but I don't think he ever really got a good reason why they denied him.

And, much to Andy's shagrin, Notre Dame is retaining Charlie Weis for another season.

"Though this past season fell short of the expectations that all of us have for our football program, I am confident that Charlie has a strong foundation in place for future success and that the best course of action is to move forward under his leadership," athletic director Jack Swarbrick said in a statement released by the university Wednesday.

Swarbrick said he made the decision to keep Weis after talking with Notre Dame's president, the Rev. John Jenkins. Swarbrick met with Weis in California on Tuesday to review this past season and discuss next season.

and after reviewing how much it would cost to buy out weis' contract, i'm guessing.

It wouldn't shock me if that played a big part.

I was hoping they'd fire Weis just so that they'd tempt Urban Meyer with mega money.

I'm not sure why everyone would think that Urban Meyer would consider going there now. He had his choice between Notre Dame and Florida, he chose Florida, and obviously with a possibility of two national titles in four years, he made the right choice. Why would he want to leave this gig? The only way Meyer bolts is if someone wants to bring his offense to the NFL.

That would be a horrible career move for Meyer if he went to Notre Dame...I agree with him possibly going to the NFL

If ND were to top Saban's 4 million dollar deal, I think Urban might bite at it. He does consider head coach at Notre Dame as his dream job, after all.

That said, it would be a dumb move for him to make and I think it'd take a massive offer from ND for him to even consider it. And even then it's unlikely.

i'm almost positive that Sean Lee had already redshirted prior to this year. Next season would be his 6th year

With bonuses and all Meyer's going to earn nearly $3 million a season for the duration of his contract at Florida. If ND ever did offer him a massive contract, you'd have to think Florida would sweeten the deal.

He also gets a $60,000 travel account, $100,000 in "Family Education Expenses" and so on.

It's pretty much the main reason Weis is being kept. If they win less than 9 games next year, I think he's gone, and they'll back a dumptruck full of money up to everyone. Meyer, Saban, Stoops, Belotti, Kelly, whomever.

It'd be a fun bidding war. Urban might end up in the $6-7 mil range.

They'd be better to go after a Tressel type of coach (lower division, proven winner = less money) and try to rebuild from the ground up. If Wies's recruiting is up to what the "experts" say it is than whomever replaces him should have a lot of talent to mold.

ND fans don't want Tressel (or his type). OSU fans only put up with him because the team wins consistently, not because he's a good coach.
