Sounds better to me. Im thinking weve seen the last of Lee at the 3 spot. And by thinking, I mean hoping. Also, this also hinges on actually getting Bradley.

Remember, Lou has made it clear to the world that a bat is his top priority, and while its not in his hands, Im sure he has a lot of say in the matter. I dont think hed take too kindly to moing one of his better and more consitant offensive players, even if it is for one of the best ptichers in the game unless he gets another bat as well.

Lineup order is irrelevant. I was just trying to think like Lou when I typed mine out.

I don't understand why the Phillies would want to help the Cubs get Jake Peavy. I mean, they are kind of defending Champions. The Cubs getting Peavy with their help doesn't look good...does it?

I myself don't believe that they are involved though, so whatever.

With so much being unknown about when Utley will return having Derosa would be a huge help to them to start the season, so from that standpoint it makes sense.

They also are looking for a RH outfielder to replace Burrell. So DeRosa could be 2 birds with 1 stone for them. He could play 2B until Utley comes back if Donald isn't ready and then move to LF when Utley returns.

Fine, it's mostly irrelevant. On the order of a handful of runs per season.

or, in reality, on the order of a handful of wins per season.

If you're comparing min and max lineups, sure. But the typical lineups of today aren't that far removed from the ideal. Nobody is batting the pitcher first.

nope, just used ones and other ones. they do matter more than most sabermetricians think. though the reason is leverage more than anything else. for instance, putting two lefties in a row increases the probability that in high leverage situations you see situational loogys in for two lefties, instead of one, those particular runs are high leverage and mean quite a bit.

Oh hell

LAS VEGAS - The legwork, complex and time-consuming, for a potential Jake Peavy trade to the Chicago Cubs has essentially been completed.

Now, all Padres general manager Kevin Towers needs is for his Cubs' counterpart, Jim Hendry, to give him the go-ahead to make the deal.

Towers said Monday night that he has facilitated a three-team and possibly a four-team deal that would send Peavy to the Chicago for a package of players.

"There's a package there that will satisfy us ... there's a deal in the way of names," said Towers, who carefully stated that no deal, even in principle, has been reached.

Towers, who had a discussion with Hendry earlier Monday, said he had been in contact with a third and a fourth team - believed to be the Orioles and Phillies - and has gotten both sides to agree to the players in play who could be moved in a deal.

Towers did say there might be some "haggling" over the players the Padres would get in return from the Cubs.

The Padres are looking for Major League-ready pitching in return for Peavy, whether it be from the Cubs or the other teams involved.

Towers said a deal "could happen quick" if Hendry and the Cubs agree to assuming not only Peavy's $11 million salary in 2009 but the remainder of the $63 million he's owed over the next four seasons.

I can certainly buy that it has an effect, but I just can't imagine stacking lefties is gonna cost you 3-4 wins all on its own.

I swear, there's nothing better than being a Cubs fan. They can break your heart over a six month period, and completely turn it around in one Off-Season.

9:00pm: MLB.com's Corey Brock says the legwork on this trade "has essentially been completed." No deal has been reached, but Towers says he's facilitated a three or possibly four-team deal. The third and possibly fourth teams (Orioles, Phillies) have agreed to players. There could be some haggling remaining on players sent from the Cubs to Padres.

Brock says all Towers needs now is the go-ahead from Hendry.

Damn, looks like this howry just got real.

If some TBD owner is the one thing that stands in the way here, I want him or her dead.

i have small hands. handful is 1 or 2.

Then you and I are on the same-ish page. I was thinking 5 to 15 runs.

Edit:

The Book has it at 50 runs. I normally agree with Tango, but damn...

I want to believe this, but I also don't want to get disappointed again. I'll wait until it's officially announced before I get excited.
