Has anyone heard rumblings of where Ken Griffey, Jr. might end up?

I ask because he's a left-handed RF whom Hendry has coveted in the past. Sure, he's past his prime, but do you think management believes he could still be productive? He would probably be relatively cheap at this point in his career. An outfield of Soriano/Fukudome/Griffey would actually be pretty solid defensively, despite the borderline train wreck in LF.

If the Cubs do target Griffey for RF, I imagine they would make another significant position player move to help beef up the offense.

Thoughts?

The only rumors I've heard about Griffey is that he might take a small deal in Seattle so that he can retire as a Mariner.

And I think I'd probably rather have Edmonds back for a year over Griffey.

Wed be better off with Edmonds over Griffey.

Anyone, we'd be better off with ANYONE over Griffey.

Corey Patterson begs to differ

i'd take patterson over griffey

Corey can at least play defense

I noticed quite a few comments providing opinions of better options than Griffey, but that doesn't address the question about management potentially being interested in Griffey.

Please note that the original question posed was, "Do you think management believes he could still be productive?"

In other words, is he on the Cubs radar??? (Not saying that he should be.)

But at least he plays defense. Griffey is awful on both sides of the ball. Plus Patterson is likely to bounce back from his awful season and be his nomrla, pretty crappyself. Griffey is pretty much done and will probably get worse next year

Griffey wasn't AWFUL on offense last year.

He had a .777 OPS good for an OPS+ of 101.

I would not take him on even for the minimum, but lets not get silly here.

I don't think you understand how bad griffey is defesnively and how much worse he's likely to be at the plate next year. At least Patterson isn't a liability on both sides of the ball and could be used as a defensive replacement/pinch runner. Griffey is literally worthless.

The Sox are going in a different direction. Griffey loved his time in city. Like the big unit ties to Piniella and wants to play for a contender. As bad as everyone says his defense is I can't imagine this former Gold Glove center fielder being worse than Dunn/Ibanez. Griffey might play for a cheap one year deal. Not a chance with the others.

Except that Griffey can't hit anymore

Come on, the guy is done. Putting DeRosa in RF and Fontenot at 2nd would be a better option. Edmonds would also be a much better option, among many others

In both of his last two seasons, he has put up an above average OPS.

Three years ago (his worst season), it was a 99 OPS+

Obviously, he will continue to decline, but it is ridiculous to say that he cannot hit anymore.

One year gamble and he'll play as many games Bradley.

If the Cubs netted Peavy/Furcal and brought back Wood on a one year deal Griffey's bat wouldn't be good enough for RF? Johnson/Derosa/Hoff/ aren't terrible backups for Griffey in the event he flops.

I guess in my fantasy offseason if the Cubs can afford Furcal,Dempster,Peavy, and got Wood back on a one year deal why not get greedy with Bradley.... I'd rather have Dunn knocking out windows on Sheffield all summer and him playing 150 games in RF =D> :-))
