If the Indians get Wood for 12-14 mill, I will vomit. Gregg's gonna cost us five , plus Ceda's live arm. At this point Hendry should have stepped back in , you can always trade Gregg or keep him the setup role to protect Marmol.

:bye: Godspeed, old friend. May the American League feel the wrath of your fastball and the bite of your slider.

It's gonna be really strange seeing Woody in an Indians uniform, but I'm not the least bit upset with this. The Indians are a good team for Woody to play for. Best of luck.

Yeah, this is pretty much best-case scenario

good, likable team in a division with a hated (somewhat) rival

Bingo. Cleveland was already my fave AL team, so it will be easy for me to root for them anyway.

I'll miss you, Kerry, and will give you a "standing o" the next time I see you. Thanks for your loyal service. My son will continue to don your jersey with pride.

Really happy to see Kerry getting a shot somewhere for a significantly more about of money. Also glad he's in the AL so I can root for him, and he won't come back to bite us in the ass.

According to Steve Phillips, it would be 2 years, 12-14 million. Really? We can't pay that? Skip the Peavy garbage, re-sign Woody, sign Bradley and call it a day.

Seriously?

Sounds like if we didnt re sign Dempster, we could have had all of the above. But then again, since the Cardinals signed a career mediocre at best pitcher who happened to have a career year to a massive contract, we had to do the same.

lol. get rid of woody for 6-7 million per year to trade for gregg for what will probably be 5 million.

wtg hendry

While giving away a promising relief prospect for the privilege of the downgrade.

Before all of the Hendry bashing starts:

1. The contract figures aren't known yet (Phillips isn't a great source).

2. Wood's comment of accepting a 1-year deal to stay with the Cubs wasn't offered to Hendry and the 1-year deal probably would have been for $9-10 million and not the "rumored" $6 or $7 million.

The Detroit Free Press says Wood's contract would be around 20 million for two years.

That seems more believable.

Ya, I would be more OK letting him go for that price. If it was 2/14 or something, that would have made me angry.

Good for him! The money is more then fair and he stays close to his Chicago market\ties. It's a perfect situation for him.

Congrats to Kerry and his family. Now he can have success against the White Sox regularly.

I might have to see about getting tickets for one of those games in June against the Indians.

What free agent offers to take a 1-year deal? Hendry pushed Wood out the door. He didn't want him on a 1-year deal.

And he shouldn't have. If this was a player with the same history and his name wasn't Kerry Wood people wouldn't want him even on a 1 year 10 million deal. Better off giving Wuertz, Shark, Guzman, etc a chance to fill the role at lower cost. Look at Boston - management there doesn't get hung up on the emotional issues of letting a long time player go if it doesn't make sense in the overall team financial picture. IMO that is how to build long term success, not by re-signing veterans at high cost because they happen to be fan favorites.

Wood's negative history is that he can't stay healthy as a starting pitcher. He'd have troubles in the 4th and 5th innings of games. He was perfectly fine as a reliever and an excellent performer. And now he's being replaced with a lesser guy who is probably going to make $6+ million.

There's no justifying it. If we could have had Wood on a 1 yr deal it was a no brainer to keep him. Especially considering we gave up Ceda and Gregg is going to make over 4mil.

He didn't stay healthy as a reliever this year either. I know, it was just a blister so he gets a pass for some reason. Missing almost a month in his first season as a reliever doesn't qualify as healthy to me. Especially when he also had blister problems as a starter.

He had the "miracle" recovery from the shoulder injury so it wouldn't be completely unexpected for him to have future shoulder problems, especially if he starts being given a heavier workload.

Hendry's mistake was not calling his bluff and offering arbitration. He was probably just not willing to take the risk it would mess up his plan to try to acquire Peavy and the outfield bat with his available budget.

According to MLB.com's Anthony Castrovince, the Indians appear closer to a two-year deal with Kerry Wood. The deal may contain a third-year option.

I won't mind rooting for Wood on the Indians.

At least it's an AL team. :(

One that routinely plays against the White Sox.

And one that comes to Wrigley Field from June 19-21.

I usually find it lame when guys come back here to St. Louis and the fans shower praise on them, i.e. Edmonds and Taguchi. But I think Woody deserves some recognition from the fans when he comes back for his time here. Thing is, if he comes in to try to close a game it would be weird to have the fans cheering him.
