I can't say I'm real fond of reading that Guzman is starting. The last thing I want to see is for him to get hurt again throwing too many pitches.

The Cubs have control of his pitch count/innings thrown in the winter leagues (just like every other player they have in Arizona, Hawaii or Latin America). He hasn't gone past 4 innings in a start yet, so he's probably not topping 60 pitches. I'm sure the Cubs are being extremely cautious with Angel.

Im starting to get a similar excitement level about Kroeger as I did about Hoffpauir last year. Kroeger is young enough that he could still be considered a prospect without using quotation marks around it, and I just hope hes given a chance this spring training. Correct me if Im wrong, but he is a minor league free agent, and anyone can scoop him up, and if he keeps it up, his Winter League numbers should be more than enough for several teams to at least take out a flyer on him.

slight improvement for hill, i guess.

4 ip, 4 h, 1 er, 3 bb, 4 k, 0 wp. 82 pitches, 52 strikes.

two of those walks were back to back in his second inning. one of the hits was an infield single, and matt murton hit him up for a double.

He's a minor league free agent as of Nov. 6th, along with the rest of this crew.

Chicago Cubs (15)

RHP: Mike Burns (AAA), Hector Carrasco (AAA), Adam Harben (AAA), Billy Petrick (AAA)

LHP: Carmen Pignatiello (AAA), Jason Stanford (AAA)

1B: Matt Craig (AAA)

2B: Robinson Chirinos (Hi A), Bobby Scales (AAA)

SS: Andres Blanco (AAA), Luis Figueroa (AAA)

OF: Doug Deeds (AA), Jason Dubois (AAA), Josh Kroeger (AAA), Andres Torres (AAA)

The only ones I'm likely to miss at all are Petrick, Pignatiello, Craig, and Kroeger... though I might miss Harben and Dubois just because I had such high hopes for them.

Craig needs to move on for his own good if he ever has a snowballs chance in hell to spend a day in the majors.

Pignatiello walked his way into Lous doghouse without getting a chance to redeem himself. I had high hopes for him at one point.

If Petrick stays in the organization, his future will pan out similarly to those of Cliff Bartosh and Ryan O'Mally, and never be seen or heard from again.

Kroeger is the only one Id like to keep around, and I dont think its likely.

SP A. Guzman 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 2 HR, 10 GO-3 FO

The two ER were apparently both on solo dingers by Miguel Montero. The one unearned run scored after a two-out walk, Guzman error on a pickoff attempt, and a single.

I'd be curious to know Guzman's pitch count. 6 IP is a lot if the Cubs are only going to use him as a reliever.

Guzman is toying with us again with his solid performance thus far in winter ball . Hitting 97 again according to reports. He could he a huge weapon in the bullpen next year I just don't him starting again in the majors.
