I am taking an absolute beating on the resale market. Anybody else having any luck at all?

I have nights and weekends. I went to Opening Day and sold Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday at 1/2-3/4 market value.

You mean face value.

I'm not trying to be a smartass, but are you surprised by this?

I had much better luck last year. I was selling mine at face value almost every game up until about July. This year has been really bad so far.

There was some excitement at the beginning of last year that the new regime had a few tricks up their collective sleeve to make the team competent. But they've been really bad for really long and not many people care to see that one a day-to-day basis.

No, not surprised. The wife and I thought long and hard before buyin them again this year. Still, it's much worse than last year.

I went in with the expectation of losing a decent amount of money, but I have to admit I am a little surprised with the resale prices. I figured I would at least be able to make a few dollars on the summer weekend games, but after StubHub fees I'm lucky to break even on those. I am hoping to ride out the losses for a few years, but I have a feeling there will be a lot of turnover in Season Ticket owners again next year.

I've sold some games to friends/family. No luck other than that. Was not expecting to make money but was hoping not to lose a [expletive] ton.

So if you electronically transfer your tickets to someone they lose the right to enter 5-10 minutes early through the VIP gate. But if you give them the hard tickets there will be no problems getting in early. What kind of moronic policy is this?

There is a VIP gate? Can all season ticket holders use these, even 500 level?

Yes. Last time I used it the gate was out behind RF but I'm not sure if it is still there.

I'm guessing because the vast majority of secondary market purchasers are getting PDFs nowadays, and they don't want them using the VIP gate.

I'm also guessing that the season ticket holder style tickets only go to season ticket holders so they at least know that those tickets originated from a season ticket holder without having to dig any deeper (whereas PDFs could be secondary market or just a single game ticket purchased from the Cubs).

I get that but how difficult would it be for a SEASON TICKET HOLDER designation to be on the PDF when transferred?

As opposed to when sold via stubhub? I guess that could be done... but that's more of an issue on the people running the My Tickets page, I would think... which sucks. I am actually being screwed by their system in a different way.

My seats are in the same section, but with Wrigley's numbering system, they're listed in two separate aisles. When I try to use the automatic batch listing, it creates two separate listings for my tickets (two in one section and two in the other), which is a problem if I want to sell to people looking for four tickets. The only way around this is to transfer all the tickets to myself, and then manually create a StubHub listing, and manually enter the PDF UPC code for every ticket, which really sucks.

Either sold on Stub Hub or just transferred to someone you know. What's the difference? One of the (only) benefits of season tickets is the ability to get in early, which is huge for the bleachers. Why does it matter who is using the tickets especially when they don't even check who is using them if they have the hard tickets in hand? It just doesn't make any sense.

Well, if they just let anybody who purchased on the secondary market use the VIP entrance, it's not very VIP, not that it matters all that much to me (Hell, I usually don't arrive til right before first pitch anyway).

If you directly are giving the tickets to somebody you know, though, I think it's fair to expect the benefits to hold up.

You're missing the point. If a SEASON TICKET is transferred, no matter how or to whom, the rights should be transferred with that ticket. I doubt most people care about getting in early anyway. It's more for the bleacher ticket holders.

Why? Why should I get the rights that come with buying 82 games for the price of buying 1?

Yeah. I wasn't missing the point at all. I just disagree.

Now, if you told me that StubHub gave me some sort of mechanism to communicate the fact that my tickets provided access to early entrance (especially in the case of bleachers) and that I could charge more for that, then sure.

But, otherwise, if I were a bleacher season ticket holder, why would I want people who bought tickets that happened to be somebody's season tickets on StubHub getting in early, too, possibly ahead of me?

I definitely agree that the season ticket holder designation should be something you can indicate on StubHub to give season ticket holders an advantage to sell tickets they can't use. But whether I'm selling tickets to a stranger or giving them to a family member there is no reason why they shouldn't be able to get in early with my tickets.

if the cubs believe they are going to sell out the bleachers most every game, they should definitely allow season ticket holders to transfer those early entry rights, as this will give season ticket holders an advantage over non-season ticket holders when re-selling their tickets. keeping season ticket holders happy is a good thing.

if the cubs do not believe they are going to sell out the bleachers most every game, they should not allow season ticket holders to transfer early entry rights, as doing so would make those tickets more appealing than simply buying directly from the cubs. the added value of selling more tickets easily trumps whatever marginal value you'd get from making season ticket holders slight happier.

It is somewhat disconcerting to see what tickets are going for on StubHub. It is almost pointless to even bother selling tickets there, with some of the upcoming weekend games being lucky to fetch half of face value.

We all knew we were going to lose money, but a lot of people aren't going to be able to sustain or justify these types of losses. I completely expected to take significant losses on weekday tickets, but it is very surprising to me that weekend games are in such low demand. At this point I can't imagine making enough money in the good years to offset the bad years, but I suppose if/when the World Series comes it will all be worth it...

I held tickets for a time, but it seems to me that whatever price I wind up paying to see Game 7 will be less than the cost of holding seats for 81 games through the brutal years. Of course, I'm well outside the radius that allows for quick jaunts to the ballpark - if I lived nearby and could use them regularly it would have been different.
