2008 has taken a decided turn in the wrong direction over the last two weeks

for the record, i wasn't too upset about the int/not int ... the ground can't cause a fumble, but it can cause an incompletion, right? maybe i've understood that wrong.

hard to complain about refs or calls in a loss where you give up almost half a hundred points and can't run the ball.

gotta root for mizzou next week cause texas has a hell of a schedule left to play.

ask snood if you can borrow the mizzou shirt i sent him

Notre Dame's offense looks very very good today. If we can win this one, the schedule sets up pretty nicely for a possible 10-win season.

And Golden Tate and Michael Floyd are really freaking good.

readjusted top five as of right now?

1. Texas

2. Alabama

3. Missouri

4. LSU

5. Oklahoma

Tough to drop OU much further than that. I am hesitant to drop them below LSU even.

Alabama should be ahead of Texas, but those two should occupy the top two spots as of now.

As I was discussing this on a Alabama fan site (not to dissimilar to NSBB) I don't think a team on an off week should ever be punished by having teams below them jump them in the standings. In my eyes, that's beyond comical. And yes, I was upset GA was jumped by USC earlier this season.

But without knowing what will happen tonight, I would Ala/Tex/Miss/LSU/OU right now. BUT we know both Mizz and LSU can screw up these rankings and lose tonight. So write this top 5 in pencil only.

Tennessee's defense is doing everything humanly possible to keep us in this game, but the offense simply can't move the football.

I like what I'm seeing from Nick Stephens, though.

I just have Alabama ahead of Texas because I think their win over Georgia was much more impressive than Texas' over Oklahoma.

Mike Leach is insane. Texas Tech had 4th and 4 on their own 36ish and went for it. They picked up the first down but still, it was a crazy call.

If Tennessee beats Georgia today, Bama's win doesn't look too hot. Not a good day for the SEC today.

Penn State, as usual, is suffering from being ranked lower in the preseason than the other current unbeatens. I hate preseason rankings.

So you're saying that during the preseason nobody really knows how good any team is and therefore it's unfair that the BCS could be affected by that uncertainty?

I'm saying the first ranking of any kind to come out should be the Week 8 BCS ranking. If you have a situation where three teams end the year undefeated, the one who started the year with the lowest preseason ranking is most likely going to be left out. Yes, the human poll is "only" 1/3 of the formula, but that's big enough that it shouldn't be arbitrary early in the season

Didn't see much of the OU/Texas game because I was watching the Iowa game but it seemed like OU was getting hosed every time I turned to it. Really surprised about the Minnesota/Illinois game. I had Minnesota to cover but wow.

Oh and Shonn Greene is an absolute beast. It's a shame we couldn't get out of our own way in the red zone and couldn't hold on to the ball in the last 3 games or he would be getting the press he deserves. Unfortunately we probably only will have one year with him.

Indiana was a bad team up front on both sides but it was nice to see us crush a Big Ten team for the first time in a while. Stanzi played really well in the second half.

I don't care that OSU is winning....I'm less and less impressed by them every time I see them. There is no reason they shouldn't be winning by 21 points at home right now

The Mock BCS from earlier this week had PSU in a distant 5th place. They're not disproportionately ranked in the human polls.

Schedule a team that's actually good and maybe you'll get some respect. Penn State has nobody to blame but themselves.

Each of the teams ahead of Penn State except maybe Texas had a better resume than Penn State did coming into today and Texas just beat Oklahoma. I'd love to hear exactly what Penn State's done to deserve to be ranked higher than sixth coming into today.

And the being ranked low thing is BS. Alabama was ranked two spots behind Penn State coming into the year (24th vs. 22nd) and is now No. 2 and could be No. 1 after this week. Why? Because they actually scheduled a decent team on the road.

I'm not saying PSU deserves to be higher right now. I'm fearing what will happen should, say, PSU, Texas and Alabama all go undefeated

In that instance, Bama and Texas go to the title game, chiefly because their schedule strength dwarfs PSU's, not because they were ranked higher to start the season.

Both of those teams would have far better resumes and Penn State would deserve to be left out.

better resumes in term of strength of conference, not OOC. Penn State's OOC was crap, but Texas' wasn't exactly mind-blowing, and Bama's best was a now unranked Clemson team.

And that unranked Clemson team is still clearly better than what Penn State played. And the conference schedule counts as well in terms of who has a better resume and if those three all go undefeated, Penn State gets left out and there shouldn't even be any debate about it.
