Dodgers:

Pros - Inferior offense to the Mets, most of us will be able to watch the games

Cons - Their pitching has owned us, they have excelled in the 2nd half

Mets:

Pros - Bullpen is a bunch of Howrys, no SP outside of Santana

Cons - Better offense than L.A., most of us likely end us missing part/all of some of the games

I'd add more, but that would kind of kill the point of this thread

Another con for the Mets is that Santana will go twice...and he can even go on 4-days rest both times.

No brain = ditching responsibilities to watch Cubs?

Your responsibilities have nothing to do with the teams on the field. I would rather face a weaker opponent knowing 90% of cubs fans couldn't watch.

Dodgers

Pros: Mediocre offense outside of Manny, 5-2 against them this year

Cons: Good pitching staff

Mets

Pros: Bad bullpen, Johan must be gassed

Cons: He's still Johan

We scored 2.7 rpg against Dodger pitching this year and still went 5-2 against them. We shouldn't be afraid to face any team in the NLDS this year.

We shouldn't fear either team, as I believe the Cubs can beat anybody in the NL, but I still think it's good to compare the teams and figure our chances.

Dodgers pitching is much worse on the road (nearly a run and a half higher ERA). But their offense has produced exactly the same on the road.

Another thing I like about the Dodgers matchup, which is a little more subtle, is that all their starters are RH whereas the Mets will throw LHPs in 3 of 5 games if it gets that far. While the Cubs have hit LHPs better, I'd rather the Cubs success be dependent on Jim Edmonds over Reed Johnson and especially Mike Fontenot/Fukudome/Hoffpauir over Ronny Cedeno. As good as Johnson has been, Edmonds is the better hitter and I don't like the thought of sitting him 3 times out of 5. While most of the regulars have hit LHPs better, Ramirez has not. Derosa, Soto, and Theriot haven't had much of a split either way. Soriano has a huge split vs. LHPs, but I've come to learn his splits mean absolutely nothing when he's hot or cold.

Cons - Manny Ramirez

Mets:

Pros - no Manny Ramirez

Santana should worry you infinitely more than Manny.

Manny can singlehandedly beat you 3 times in a 5-game series. Santana can only shut you down twice, and besides, the Cubs have 3 pitchers that are fully capable of matching zeroes with Santana for 7 or 8 innings.

Mets pro: might not clinch till monday, will likely gassed

con: could be riding high after clinching

Dodgers pro: we're better than them

con: have had time to set their rotation and its still a short series

Posted
Pros: We're the best team in the NL so I don't care who we play.

Cons: a short series is always a toss-up.

is there any real reason why the NLDS is not a seven game series?

there has to be a GOOD reason right?!?

Dodgers

Pros: Mediocre offense outside of Manny, only 84 wins in a bad division.

Cons: Derek Lowe is red hot, and the Cubs have struggled against him this year. Chad Billingsley is pretty good as well, and the Cubs struggled against Kuroda in two starts this year. Plus they have a pretty good bullpen, with good depth.

Mets

Pros: Bad bullpen with no closer, Pelfrey, Perez and Martinez are beatable.

Cons: Jonah Santana is very good and you might have to face him in twice in a five game series. Line-up is pretty strong 1-6.

The Mets looked pretty crappy against us this week, so I'm kinda leaning towards wanting to play them. Plus that will also knock the Brewers out of the playoffs which is good. The Dodgers just scare me a little bit right now, we haven't hit their starters very well. They have a good bullpen, and Manny is just awesome right now. I'm scared of possibly losing a three low scoring games to them.
