Wow I know we've already clinched but this game has been an embarassment.

Hoffpauir turns a routine out into a double

Hoffpauir makes a terrible baserunning mistake

Edmonds (or Theriot) misses a sign

Catcher's interference on a RP batting

Balk to advance said fat reliever

Soriano with multiple screwups

Ugly. I don't care if we've already clinched, it's not good to be going into the playoffs playing dumb baseball

And like half of those guys won't even be playing next week.

Come on, man. None of this matters. I MIGHT grant you that the playoff opponent thing matters (albeit not as much as people think), but how we "look" tonight means absolutely nothing. Jesus.

I never said anything about those guys doing that stuff in the playoffs. I'm just saying tonight has been an embarassing night on a Friday night ESPN game.

Remember the Dodgers got Furcal back this week who was putting up MVP numbers before he went down. Not to mention Manny. Their pitching rotation isn't that great with Penny out but they have a solid rotation. Plus they are coming into the playoffs hot. The Dodgers really scare me and it wouldn't surprise me if they came in and beat us. Luckily this time around we have Home Field Advantage which really could have helped last year.

I'm not going to go all "the sky is falling" but before tonight, I would have said let the "playoff team" play two games this series and then rest them on the season finale. But with the way this team has played the last week, I say don't rest your playoff starters, they need to get this "casual crap" out of their system now, of the Cubs will be out of the playoffs very quickly.

The Playoffs are too close for the Cubs to continue to play as casual as they have. I hope Lou nails into them after the game.

This makes no sense.

Clinch...but play like you haven't.

Guh?

Again, I'd probably rather face the Mets, but it's foolish to think it makes a huge difference. We can easily lose to them and we could just as easily beat a superior team.

Not only that, but I don't want the Brewers in the playoffs. What if Sheets actually comes back healthy? Then all of a sudden they've got Sabathia/Sheets/Gallardo

Don't worry so much.

We're in. We've got our shot for this year. Probably the best shot of any team in baseball.

I have to tell myself that crap, too. But yea, just enjoy it at this point. And do a lot of this :beg:

I think Gaudin is going to suck Bob Howry right onto that playoff roster.

Lou said Howry already made it, which we all knew ould happen. He's going to be the 7th inning guy.

I'd use the Shark in the 7th over Howry. Where the heck is Wuertz? Why isn't he out there pitching?

Wuertz is still alive?

So Lou doesn't want to hold close leads in the late innings?

Interesting.

I hate Howry as much as the next guy, but looking at the pen lately, is he really any worse than the rest of these disasters?

It's been obvious that Lou has no time for Wuertz at all.

Mets lose.

Cubs offense isn't making me very happy today.

The offense doesn't bother me so much as the mental errors do.

BTW, any word on Soto?

I am very glad to see the pitchers who will be pitching in October doing well. It's not like Shark got hammered or anything and Demp looked good.

After tonight, we'll only have a 7.5 game lead with 2 games to go. We're doomed.

Yeah, even though hundreds of thousands of Cub fans worldwide already have NL Central Division Champion T-shirts. I don't know though...you might be on to something.

Not a troll, just worried especially after what happened last year although we are a much better team this year.

I can handle losing, because the odds are still heavily against us winning the World Series. Something I would not be able to handle would be getting kocked out by the brewers.

Lmao @ these Brewers announcers.

They are putting down Soriano, not mentioning how Braun is in left field. Yeah Soriano isn't the best left fielder, but Braun isn't either.

Braun has been above average in LF this year, check the defensive metrics.

They weren't putting him down though, just questioning why he was in the game when he obviously was hurt.

I dont' know what to think of the Cubs playoff chances. I think they have the best team in the NL for sure but with Harden not being as sharp as he could be and Zambrano looking less than 100% I'm not 100% sold they have the best playoff team in the NL. When you knock the rotation down to 3 pitchers and put less stress on team depth I think it hurts the Cubs more than most teams.

They still have a very balanced offense that can hit lefties and righties, has good OBP and good SLG. They are still the best or 2nd best fielding team(Mets might be better). They still have comperable pitching overall and none of the teams have dominant bullpens this year so they are at least as good as the others in that area. I still think they are favorites but in a 5 or 7 game series it isn't unbeatable.

Wuertz has been garbage pretty much every time out. Still time for Lieber to change his mind? Old Country Buffet must have a restraining order on him by now, so what else does he have to do?

Remember that the Dodgers spent the entire month playing these teams

San Diego - 9 Games

Arizona - 3 Games

Colorado - 3 Games

Pittsburgh - 3 Games

San Fran - 3 Games (3 left)

Scary.

Why the soapdrop do we have to play the Cubs...
