No pics of shirtless Soto?

Epic fail.

Well he can't give it all up on just a division clinching. That sounds like something for a pennant.

The ultimate prize would be naked Soto after a World Series win. You all know you want to see that.

Well..... I took a few snapshots at the game, so here goes..........

The infamous Miller Lite sign........

Ted Lilly Winds up for the first pitch

The opponents put up zero in the first inning.... kind of a refreshing change, eh?

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b137/Hornkohl/003.jpg

Here's the Cards' left fielder chasing after Soriano's 2nd inning bases loaded single that he let get by him.

Here's Soriano standing on third after 3 runs crossed the plate.

.... and the scoreboard tells the tale...

Here's Soto scoring in the 4th inning......

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b137/Hornkohl/009-1.jpg

.... on a 2 base hit from DeRosa.

and the scoreboard shows it's 4-0

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b137/Hornkohl/011.jpg

shortly after this, Ted Lilly laid down the most beautiful suicide squeeze scoring DeRosa..... but it was too quick for me, I didn't get the shot. 5-0 CUBS. The some Cardinal guy hit a home run. I don't want to talk about that.

Here's some guy named Vince Vaughn doing the 7th inning stretch bit... [/yawn]

Kerry Wood on to pitch in the 9th

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b137/Hornkohl/013.jpg

scoreboard shows 2 outs and some guy named Aaron Miles is the last chance...........

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b137/Hornkohl/014.jpg

Miles about to hit one out to center field..........

Edmonds makes the catch (sorry about the focus there)

The "W" flags come out.........

The CUBS do a curtain call 30 minutes later.....

more curtain call

still more curtain call.....

meanwhile, outside the ballpark at the Ernie Banks some guy named Rob Blagolaytugjdhbknposlkdjzvich was trying to get his picture taken. I was not abut to oblige him !!

.... and the big Marquis outside

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b137/Hornkohl/030-1.jpg

Go CUBS !!

Hendry did not look please when Cedeno was spraying him.

I loved how Cedeno was just doing it lazily and passive-aggressively.

Holy crap, that was one of the funnier things I've seen in my entire life. Hendry looked pissed and Cedeno just keeeept going. I think he's my new favorite player.

To this day, I don't own a single piece of "championship" merchandise for any of my sports teams because I always hold off to see if they go further (who wants an "NFC North Champ" hat for a Super Bowl year?), and then when the season ends I'm too disappointed to want anything.

I hope the Iowa Cubs win 7 games the next week. Let's get to 100.

I'd like to see that, but I'd also like to see them lay down against the Brewers so that the Brewers clinch the WC.

i agree, not only do i want to see the brew in the playoffs, i also want to see the cubs rest every single starter except marquis until the playoffs.

Why? That would only lead to rust. I'd like to see the starters make their scheduled start but be on 80-90 pitch limits with Harden being on about a 70 pitch count. Have the starters go 3-to-5 (depending on pitches) and then let the pen do the rest. Have the relievers you're going to bring in the playoffs on set schedules where they'll pitch an inning on certain days regardless of the score and let the AAA guys pitch the rest of the innings depending on pitch count of the starters.

It doesn't really make sense to rest the starters from now until the playoffs.

Nothing like a little Johnnie Walker Gold Label to celebrate a division championship.

As if the back-to-back playoff appearances isn't rare enough, here's something else that struck me as beyond awesome. Take a look. Take a good look, and enjoy.

I doubt y'all are still posting here. But I wanted to drop in and get my belated opportunity to do so. I was on a transcontinental flight between Wash DC and South Africa for this flight. Rest assured I wore my GEO jersey for the flight and was asked - by south africans of all people - if the Cubs were going all the way this year.

The answer? (and censors be damned). -- HELL YEAH

Read this morning that Edmonds made sure Kerry got the ball after the last out - really cool.

Yea, I actually remember seeing them talking after the out yesterday, he was handing it to Kerry and you could see Kerry say something like "keep it" and Jimmy was like "Nah, man it's yours"

pretty cool

We used to give Jimmy so much crap when he was a Cardinal, but he's a pretty decent guy. Very cool that he gave the ball to Kerry.
