Who on this board didn't expect a bit of a letdown today?

8 runs isn't "a bit" of a letdown

lol seriously...a letdown is 6 IP 5 ER or something. 1.2 IP and 8 ER is an utter disaster.

I am going to bet this was Z trying to do way to much after that No No.......as long as he didn't break his hand in the clubhouse I am not worried. If he has a big stinker in his next outing I will worry.

this team is so good

last season was a dog fight to just get into the playoffs

this season we want it all and we have the team to do it

the highs and lows are so weird this season, just a lot of silent praying that really has nothing to do with the games being played if you get what i mean

health health health

health is all we need

Apparently Z's grandmother died and he was to and from Venezuela over a 3 day period. This according to Lou Piniella's post-game interview.

Does that make sense? Hmm

Tuesday - In Chicago, threw out first pitch of Cubs-Brewers game

Wednesday - Flies to Venezuela

Thursday - Flies to Chicago

Friday - Starts vs. Cardinals

Why would they even have him start without a bullpen session or side work after coming back from Venezuela?

Seriously...They should of just skipped his start.

one of the reporters asked Lou this and he retorted "Who am I gonna start?".

I know the correct answer to be "anyone". Is this team really this dense when it comes to pitcher injuries and the need to get guys in the best position for the playoffs? Guys go with an extra day of rest all the time due to off days, why not give Z time off after a) a recent DL stint, b) a high initial PC, c) flying internationally twice in 3 days... this seem very cavalier.

Im going to go with my theory that a big reason for the Cardinals downfall is that they spent all their time teaching their offense Zambranos every move and every pitch, thus owning him, however forgot how to hit pretty much every other starting pitcher in baseball.

I saw Z's postgame interview. He looked tired and his voice was hoarse. I'm really sorry to hear about his grandmother, but I do feel better about his start being solely a matter of him being distracted and not prepared to start.

He said he didn't get in until last Thursday night/Friday morning, his legs were really tired so they weren't responding the way they normally would, and said that he wanted to start today because he wanted to be a hero, whatever that means.

It was actually mentioned on a telecast earlier this week (I don't recall whether it was yesterday or Wednesday) that he wasn't with the team because of his grandmother. I don't recall whether they mentioned her dying or just being sick, but that does provide support for what you said because today wasn't the first mention of that.

The "great quotes" or whatever thread is locked, but complete wastes of time like this one aren't. Okay.

Yeah, I didn't get that. Not sure I've seen the "pre-emptive lock" used before.
