Right now, if the games mean anything, Cole Hamels and Johan Santana are slated to start the final game of their team's regular season next Sunday. The only way for them to truly mean anything is if the Brewers hang around in the wildcard. However, if the Brewers have clinched the WC by the final day, then the Phils/Mets could just be fighting it out for the NL East crown. In that case, it might hurt the Cubs. If the Brewers win the WC, that means the Cubs will face the Dodgers in the 1st round. Even if Santana and/or Hamels have to go the final Sunday of the season, they could pitch Game 3 for their team's in the NLDS. That would set them up perfectly for Game 1 of the NLCS, though against hte Cubs.

So, my conclusions.... First, I have thought about playoff scenarios way too much. Secondly, the Cubs want the Phillies to run away with the division in the next few days. Then we want the Brewers tied with the Mets in the WC the final day of the season. Cubs then beat the Brewers and Santana takes the Mets into the playoffs going deep in the game on Sunday. Cubs face the Mets in the NLDS, with Santana only able to pitch once.

Yup, I was just telling my friend that the other day. I am rooting for all 3 teams to stay in the race as long as possible so that they have to make those starts.

So.....if Sheets were to be declared done for the year (just the hypothetical), would that change anyone's desire to face the Mets in the NLDS over perhaps having the Crew win the WC and we face the Dodgers in the NLDS?

I'd like our chances a good deal against the Crew in the NLCS if they only have CC/Parra as their 1 & 2. Especially since we've now hit CC a couple of times in a row pretty good. I think we can take out the Dodgers.

Just throwing it out there.

The Sheetsless Brewers would stand little chance of beating anybody in the first round to get to the NLCS.

They'd just need to steal 1 and let CC win a couple 1-0 games.

If the Cubs play to their abilities, then I do not worry about their draw in the NL playoffs.

Exactly.

But a team only plays up to their abilities, I don't know 50% of the season? What if we aren't? I'd rather the easier draw and hope to play up to our abilities in the NLCS/WS
