Screw you Olsen and Turner!

Alright, now I got that out of my system, I would have taken 1-1 going into the home opener before the season started. After the high of week 1, this was a much better indicator of where this team is at. The defense is very good, but maybe not dominant. The offense is capable of showing life, but overall a clear weak spot. Orton can do some nice things, but has significant limitations.

The Bears are 3 point favorites against a tough, but not special Tampa team. If this is going to be a playoff season, this is a game the Bears have to win. They are 2-0 against the spread, for what that's worth.

Ugh, I want to bask in Cubs glory but my other sports love is forcing me to also wallow in Bears mediocrity.

I'm a man torn between two extremes. It's not a pretty sight.

I wouldn't call this Bears team the extreme opposite of the Cubs. Right now we don't quite know. They could be, and quite possibly should be, 2-0 with 8 home games to go. What's most likely is this is a team a game or two above or below .500.

As excited as I was after the Colts game, I am equally discouraged by the offensive performance yesterday. This feels like what I thought we would get from Orton.

So maybe they can dink and dunk for 20 points or so and hopefully that will be enough. But I'm not optimistic.

Yeah, maybe jersey has the game thread starting mojo this season*

I agree w/ goony. If this team expects to make the playoffs, this is the type of game they must win (at home, WC-at-best opponent). Can't have had higher expectations than a 1-1 road start going into the season but they really shot themselves in the foot yesterday and should have won.

*I'm really not superstitious.

I thought the Bears would suck then they beat the Colts so I thought maybe they wouldn't be so bad. I also thought Carolina would suck, but they beat the Chargers and came back against a team that may or may not suck. I'm still confused by the Bears being favored against Tampa, a team I thought would be good, so maybe Tampa sucks.

Tampa is nothing special, and they are on the road against a team that may or may not win 8 games. 3 points is not much of a line, and the Bears are 2-0 against the spread. If Tampa was favored in this game, the public would have been heavily on the Bears. I could see this one narrowing as the week goes along though.

Go back to thinking they'll suck. It seems to work better ;)

Is Garcia good to go or is our old friend Griese going to start?

I don't really know, but I heard chucky is unhappy with Garcia right now so I'm guessing it's Griese.

there was a report out yesterday (ESPN bottom line) that TB tried to trade garcia to SF, but SF said no. I think Gruden is done with JG

Why? He's been pretty good for them, no?

I wonder if there's bad blood there now because TB was going after Favre.

Even if Griese is starting...I don't feel comfortable that will win this game

Me neither. I'm not sure I'll feel comfortable about any game they play this year.

I think we just played a rusty Peyton Manning and banged up Colts team and lucked out in the first game.

I dont know, but its Gruden. he is pretty quirky when it comes to qb's. I tried to find an article on it, but I cant seem to. I think the report was weird. it read something like "TB contacts SF on trading Jeff Garcia, SF declines". If thats true, it sounds like Gruden just wants him gone.

I don't know. We were actually playing good against the Panthers. They weren't really dominating us in any aspect of the game until they got their running game going in the 2nd half. I still think we played the better game on the whole. We just pissed it away. Mistakes like those should be correctable.

Certainly the timing of week 1 helped, but they still beat the crap out of Indy in Indy. I don't think that's luck. Minnesota wasn't good enough to take advantage of nearly a similar situation, only at home. And as Soul noted, the Bears were in control of nearly that entire game. The weather didn't help, and Olsen fumble it away. Had the play calling been different in the 4th, who knows what happens.

The only thing I know about the 2008 Bears is they aren't as bad as I expected them to be.

Carolinas longests drives:

55=TD

52=FG

33=INT

26=TD

As you can see they had 2 possesions you could maybe classify as 'drives'. If the Bears put up 17 and move the ball with a little more consitancy they should win with this defese. If they arent going to score at least win the field position battle and dont turn the ball over on their side of the field. Greise or Garcia dont worry me with this defense. John Gilmore had a 36 yard catch last game, how the hell did the falcons let that happen, dude must of been WIDE open. Maybe Orton can connect on a long one this game, just one time.

We played a good game and should have won it, but the panthers are one of our easier games on the schedule and until I see a full season from Brown and others...I still dont feel comfortable that our defense will play this well.....When healthy there one of the best or the best....That's if there healthy and haven't been since the Superbowl

Completely disagree. Road game against a team that went into SD last week and won. That's tough. Carolina sucked last year, but they are decent at least. And there's no such thing as an easy win on the road at a decent NFL team, not to mention with 100 degree temps.
