The Colts DT's got even lighter today. Ed Johnson was caught speeding and was charged with possessing a small amount of marijuana yesterday morning. He has started all 17 games that he has been with the Colts. In response, the Colts cut him.

Last year, the Colts had 3 somewhat average size DT's. Those 3 have now been hurt (McFarland), retired unexpectedly in only his 2nd year in the league (Pitcock) and now cut (Johnson). Their 2 likely starting DT's this weekend are 274 and 254 pounds.

:-)) LenDale White is almost as big (240 lbs) as your starting DTs.

I hate to open this can of worms, but a lot of Vick's struggles were blamed on his recievers and how often they dropped the ball. Roddy White has since blossomed into a solid #1 WR and Michael Jenkins looks to be stepping his game up, too.

jeez i am not looking forward to my confidence picks this week. there are a huge number of games that look like toss-ups:

Chicago (1-0) at Carolina (1-0)

Tennessee (1-0) at Cincinnati (0-1)

Oakland (0-1) at Kansas City (0-1) - not a tossup but i refuse to put a lot of confidence on a team as bad as kc

Indianapolis (0-1) at Minnesota (0-1)

New Orleans (1-0) at Washington (0-1)

San Diego (0-1) at Denver (1-0)

New England (1-0) at New York Jets (1-0)

i am even feeling uneasy about some of the games that have more than a 1-2 point spread, like pitt @ cleveland and baltimore @ houston.

And since Vick left they've had Joey Harrington, D.J. Shockley and Chris Redman throwing to them. Matt Ryan, keep in mind, has only been the QB for one game.

I think it was just more of a breakout year for White more than anything else.

White and Jenkins both had a huge case of the drops with Vick as their quarterback, mostly because of how hard he threw the ball. Their drops went mostly away last season.

I don't want it to be this way, but I just hear so many of the same excuses, explanations to not make this comparison. Even some of the praise is the same (increasing completion %, more of a pocket passer), neither made Vick a significantly better QB

I actually don't like that Vince is trying to be a pocket passer. That's not his best asset.

As for speed of the throws, Brett Favre chucks bullets at his receivers and they can catch. None of the Titans' receivers were big-time playmakers before coming to Tennessee. Justin Gage has actually been more productive since Vince has been throwing the ball to him. It's simply that the receivers aren't very good.

People need to lay off trying to make Vince (or any mobile QB) a pocket passer - he simply won't be good that way. Steve McNair took his time in turning into a pocket passer and things turned out very well. I'll be very pleased if Vince follows the same route (and statistically, Vince is on the same route right now).

yeah, that is a real bad move. young wasn't a top 3 pick in the draft because of his arm, nor was he an elite college quarterback for that reason. he did throw very well his junior year, but he also ran for more than 1000 yards in both his soph and junior years. that's pushing 100 YPG on the ground, just crazy for a qb. against michigan and usc in the rose bowl, he ran for 392 yards and 7 touchdowns. i picked texas to beat usc because young just seemed to have this quality where he could put a team on his back when they were in trouble and singlehandedly win the game, whether it be with his arm or his legs.

i loved him in college and i thought (and still think) that he will be a good nfl quarterback. but if he's gonna end up as a pocket passer, you have to let him take the donovan mcnabb route to get there - run a lot early in his career, then cut back later. donovan was not much better than average in the passing game, but he added a real threat with his ability to scramble. he's improved as a passer now and runs pretty sparingly. young can't do everything he did at texas, but they can still run some designed shotgun draws and let him get out of the pocket. he's still faster and a better athlete than most of the guys on the other side of the ball.

I agree 100% with this entire post.

For some reason, Vince is convincing himself he needs to run less and become a pocket passer. Fisher and Heimerdinger are actually trying to get him to use his speed more often because they understand the terrific weapon Vince running can be.

The comparison to McNabb was perfect and Steve McNair took the same route. He was a scrambling QB until he developed into a good passing quarterback later in his career. From then on, he only scrambled when he had to but by then he was a good passer.

Reliant Stadium won't be able to host the game between Houston and Baltimore this week. What does that mean for fantasy players on those teams? Don't start them?

ESPN fantasy is treating this week as the bye week for Houston and Baltimore.

I'd assume the rest are as well.

Unless you want to get zero points from those positions that's exactly what it means. They're not playing, so they can't put up any points.

Wow, Al Davis is an idiot.

Now, Davis is preparing to fire Kiffin as soon as Monday, regardless of how the visiting Raiders perform Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Mercury News has reported, citing several front-office sources. "You have to look at the history. History is what it is, that he doesn't keep people very long," Kiffin said Wednesday of Davis, two days after the Raiders lost their season opener 41-14 to the Denver Broncos in Oakland. "He's not the guy I hired," Davis said in mid-August, according to the report in the Bay Area newspaper.

I really wish he'd step back. He was an innovater (sp) but it's past his time now.

Do you guys think if the Pats score 35 or so that it's the system and not so much Brady?

I agree. He needs a GM to handle the day to day stuff, but his ego won't allow that.

Partially the system, partially the talent around Cassel. Tom Brady is definitely incredible, but the talent around him is very, very good. Cassel doesn't have to do much to have a very good game.

Al Davis is the worst owner in football. He means well and wants to win but is beyond clueless and desverse all the problems the Raiders have. I actually feel bad for their fans.

That's the problem, from what I've seen. He seems like an idiot fan who doesn't really know that much, but still wants to win and thinks he's the smartest football guy out there.

What is it with the Lions anyway? They've got talent on that squad, it's Marinelli's 3rd year. They should be better than this. I fully expect the Packers to tear them apart today.

Should I start the Colts D or the Bucs D?

I'd go with the Colts D. New Orleans has a much better offense than Minnesota. Peterson may have a big day, but the Colts will get turnovers from Jackson, I have to think.

The Bucs are playing ATL.

Yes, this is a very good point. For some reason, I thought Washington was Tampa Bay. Don't ask...

That's a much tougher decision, I think I'd go with TB. Both defenses are likely to get some turnovers, but Peterson is more likely to have a big day than Michael Turner or anybody on the Falcons.

The Colts defense sucks. Luckily the guy I'm playing started the Ravens who don't play this week. It doesn't look like either one of us started a defense this week.
