It doesnt have to be a Cubs, just anyone. If it looks like a batter stands at the plate too long after a home run, they are sure to get plunked, if not in that game the next, however, every time Valverde gets a save he makes a complete jack hole out of himself. A lot of pitchers get excited about a bit out, from everything from fist pump or pointing to the sky to Brian Wilsons little X across the chest thing, but Velverde gets down right excessive. How theres never been any retaliation toward him is well beyond me. Obviosly, its very rare that a closer gets an at bat, so someone else on the team should pay the price.

Either that, or I cant wait until the day when one of our guys finally gets a walk off off him and beat there chest and proceed to do a Rick Flair march around the bases and WOO at every base.

Why? His job is to close the game for his team and he gets pumped when he does. Good for him.

The completely arbitrary and subjctive anti-celebration "rules" in baseball are stupid.

Thats true, but isnt it kind of hypocritical? Everyone complains about a batter celebrating, but never a pitcher. It should be all or nothing.

It is hypocritical. Batters should be able to celebrate when they get the job done, too. Extending a stupid reaction to onfield celebration isn't the thing to do. All the guy is doing is getting excited on the mound after his team wins...and? Who cares? Beat his team and you don't have to see him get excited. It's pretty simple.

It's not that arbitrary or subjective. He's an extreme case. There's a few like him and it's annoying.

i'd kind of rather we didn't.

seems kind of childish for the team with the best record in baseball to bean an astro because one of their guys celebrates a little too much when they win.

As a person who loves Soriano's and Ramirez's home run celebration, I don't have a big issue with Velverde. It only bothers me to see it because that means he beat us. I also think it's a little annoying when your team isn't going to sniff the playoffs but it isn't enough to piss me off.

most people who hate home run celebrations are old-timers or olde thyme thinking traditionalist who wouldn't know a good time if it bit them in the butt

What's extreme? He jumps and yells and stuff on the mound after his team wins. The game is over and he and his team were victorious, so he celebrates. Is there some kind of guideline as to what's acceptable in terms of onfield celebration after a victory? Zambrano and Marmol do all kinds of stomps and jumps and yells and fist pumps and screaming at God and whatnot after getting the final out of an inning while the game is still going. Why is Valverde "extreme?" At least Valverde does it at the end of the game when it's all over ad his team has won and he has an actual reason to be that pumped.

The best retaliation would be for someone to hit a walk-off shot agianst him and then go crazy like he does.

Teams already go crazy when they have a walkoff win. That's apparently "OK."

Or not.

What Valverde does is no different than what Zambrano does. Zero percent different.

Zambrano's never murdered a family of 5 in their sleep though.

Dusty? He's got the little boy and at least one other daughter sleeping with CPatt. As a former pro ballplayer, there's no telling how many other pitcher killers he's got out there.
