His contract is up at the end of the season.

Whether we re-sign him is a matter for debate. My guess is that if he's willing to take an affordable one-year deal, we'd bring him back; but if he wants a longer deal, then no way.

an invaluable website

http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/

Esigned as a free agent 5/14/08 (Chicago pays pro-rated portion of $0.39M ML minimum - about $0.29M - with SD paying about $5.71M and St. Louis paying $2M)

He'll be a FA after this season

Edmonds is on the border of being a FA eligible for draft pick compensation but it doesn't matter because the cubs aren't going to offer him arbitration.

The Cubs should not resign him.

It really depends on if we completely fail in the offseason. We should look to get a good bat for RF, move Kosuke to CF and be set. We should also move Pie, But I have a feeling we might to the latter and not the former which would mean the team might just be dumb enough to resign Edmonds. Has Edmonds been great since he joined the team? Absolutely. Should we expect him to to Cubs Edmonds next year and not SD/end of STL Edmonds? Absolutely not.

Please, God, no, don't resign him. Enjoy the cheap ride for now and then politely wave farewell at the end of it.

Agreed. Edmonds, in a way, reminds me of Gary Gaetti in 1998. Both 39, both get a shot in the arm playing for a good team and produce above and beyond expectations.

Edmonds is a great story, but he's not going to produce at nearly the rate he has this season.

Sign Reed Johnson to a 2-year deal and let Pie play.

I wouldn't bring him back. If you think his bat swing has slowed significantly this year, just wait until next year after wearing that heavy World Series Championship ring all offseason. :D

Wouldn't that be like doing practice swings with the donut? Assuming he takes them off for the games he should be fine.

Or move Fukudome over to CF to platoon with Reed and sign a masher for RF who will be the new #3 with the magical pile of money I just made up out of nowhere.
